Been thinking about it for a while now and I’ve made an enquirer at Lipscombs, my only real concern is getting in and out of it, I’m going to buy another R for the Trophy so I’m not bothered about a roof, Mrs Boggy’s getting a Bmw so we have that angle covered as well, I only now need a Toy which I can play with rather than use for different reasons so now might be the time 0 – 12 months

How many track days will you do in it? It really isn't much of a road car Boggy - I hate B roads in mine, I get rattled around like hell. If you aren't going to track it, race it, sprint it or hill climb it, don't buy one, imho.

Thanks Stephanie,

I'm planning to do at least 8 - 10 track days a year, but I'd be using it on the road for sure. I'm not really taken by the Evora so after much thought of what I want to actually do with our car I'm thinking about the 2 11

That also worry's me as it will need to be used on the road to a certain extent, how many miles have you done using it on the road?

If you were keen on competing on the trophy Boggy, I would have thought that you'd want to take advantage of track day time to practice and play with the set up on the race car. You dont get time to do that on race weekends and test days are pretty much as expensive as trackdays.

A race car is the ultimate toy. I would imagine having another car that was as compromised for road use as a 2-11 might be overkill.

I have to agree....if you are racing Id be in that every weekeend on test days. For road use a bog std 111R is as good as anything for fun sunny days out

Im sure you could set-up the 2-eleven for the road no issues (dont they come with road settings written down in the manual for the shocks?)

Id like a 2-eleven too, but would have to have an Elise as well probably for those days out with the GF when the weather cant be guaranteed...in fact Id like a 2-eleven for track and competition, a fast Elise for sunny days out, and an Evora for work...oh and an RS6 for DIY and camping trips to LeMans...no where was that lottery ticket wink

Why not race a 2-11?

Having a race Elise (interesting choice with the R) and a 2-11 seems a bit daft as you'll want to spend all your track time in the race car so you know both the car and the track backwards.

Can't afford to race a 2 11, it's telephone number's if I put it into a barrier which I'm probably going to do at some point, also purchase price and addition’s I’m not kidding myself I’m not going to win any group B races so why bother spending fortunes, I’m happy to just take part. I really like the way an R feels on track they suit my driving style which is why I'm leaning towards one of those to race. There are a few R's coming onto the market now for under 13k Obviously not in the sort of condition you'd want for your own car but as a track car it's fine.

May have to look at an Elise S/C then, I suppose I could just get the basic car without any pack’s and then just add some lightweight wheel’s, I can always change suspension, brakes etc in time

Will you really be doing trackdays in it? If I had a quid for every time Tim and I have banged our heads against the wall because you won't do a trackday in either of your Elises or the Exige, I'd have a deposit down on one.

I really can't see it happening. And you'll hate the 2-Eleven on the road. And then you'll decide you want an Evora again.

I know you'll have a go, but I'm just trying to be the voice of reason. And I know you'll go ahead and buy something else, just because you haven't bought a car for 10 months tongue out

Sorry to be such a cynic but I cannot see you doing 8-10 trackdays in a 2-11 and racing an Elise. It's not gonna happen. So the 2-11 will sit in the garage waiting for the odd sunny day because they are as miserable as hell to drive in the wet, I can assure you of that.

And they do have road settings for the suspension, but it's still compromised Bogie - I've done 5500 miles in mine now including 2200 across Spain this summer. I've enjoyed every minute of the car but find myself avoiding roads I would normally make a beeline for in the Elise, becuase I can't face having my fillings shaken out and the thing grounding over bumps that the liz would take in its stride.

Save your money Boggy and enjoy your racing.

Jo,

is it really no fun on the road? I'm surprised by that.

Depends on the road is what I was trying to say. The B roads which I would normally enjoy in the liz, can be slow progress because with the low ride height. I wouldn't peel off down a country lane for example in the 2-11.

Hi Stu,

The whole getting in and out thing is something that you would soon get used to, believe me, if I can cope with my silly little 'umpa lumpa' type legs then I'm sure you will cope fine. wink
Just think of it along the lines of a newbie complaining about getting out of an Elise/Exige the first few times and you'll see what I mean.

As for buying one for trackdays? I really can't see the point if you're competing in the trophy to be honest, each and every spare amount of track time that you get should be spent perfecting and honing your driving skills and techniques in the race car so as to really acclimatise yourself with it.

The money that would be spent on buying and running a 2 Eleven would go a hell of a long way to running a race car/tow car/hotels for race weekends/tuition etc and that is certainly where my spare hard earned would go.

I would actually be buyning this if it was me - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/649052.htm

Fair play but if you can afford an Elise SC as a toy and a racing car, it doesn't sound like cash is a problem!! smile

If you want to race then you'd be better getting a ready prepped car that's raced this year and forget the toy, it'll be cheaper and get you out on track practising sooner.I think all the Class A cars are road legal anyway so you can use that for B road blasts if you want.

If all you want to do is fulfil a dream to race a Lotus (nothing wrong with that!), get your license and have a chat to Paul Golding about hiring a race car, I think someone (Gavin Kirby?) has cars he rents out for the weekend.

Bogs, have I missed something? Are you not happy with the Exige? I'd stick with that mate, it's a gorgeous car and can be the garage-based 'fun' car that you can look after and enjoy. Get a 111R and concentrate on perfecting that for the track work and trophy stuff. Doesn't matter if it gets stone-chipped, dinked etc. That's what I'd do anyway.

I know what you’re saying sir but I'd rather stick to class A, I'd prefer to prep my own car rather than buy something already raced etc. You know what I'm like Benn I've got to have a Lotus for the road to use as well just in case (or when I) bend it

I think they prefer you to own your car in the Trophy, I know you can hire one but it's more as a means of seeing if it's for you rather than something you can do for a season
