Industry sources have said that Porsche has been studying a four-passenger coupe, code-named E2A, and a four-door sedan, code-named E2B. Good? Bad? Indifferent? Expected?

Just curious as to the standard PH reaction...

There has always been a market for four seater coupes (Ferrari 456GT) but a Porsche Saloon? Next thing you know they'll be building off-roaders...

They could just fit the V8 out The Cayenne in a VW Phaeton, save themselves a bit of R&D money...

I hope it's true.

Competent engineering and incredible reliability (even though they get sold to idiots who mark them down in JD Powers surveys for cupholder and AM radio issues) would make it an excellent sports saloon.

They need to be careful and not bankrupt the company in the process of developing it. That would be a great loss.

It's too late for Porsche, when the Sh1te-van rolled out, Porsche all but curled up and died in my eyes.
It's already halfway down the slipery slope and it dont look like they want to turn around either.

Based on the new Passat platform no doubt.

Would love to see it when the spy shots start appearing.

Just because Porsche are a sports marque doesnt mean they shouldnt look at other sectors...

Ouch!! Glad I'm not rich enough,or stupid enough to buy one of those then! 50% depreciation in 9 months..? Is that some kind of record?

True True, but on a similar note would, say, Bentley dilute its brand and appeal if it produced a 1.1litre hatchback

Excellent. A couple more years of disastrous depreciation and I will get to buy one to pull the trailer with at reasonable money.

I can find 'S' for £49k on Autotrader (the cheapest they have), but they aren't £85k new....

All the Cayenne prices are for the S which has been over-ordered by the dealer network. The S of course is priced at the back end of the 40K bracket anyway so doesn`t seem to bad.

The Turbo`s (late 70`s) still seem to have a premium.

I have pointed this out elsewhere but.........

If BMW can take the 5 series, put it on stilts and add 4wd then Porsche should do the opposite..

Cayenne -stilts-4wd=decent family hack. Sounds a much better idea than the truck.

This wouldn't be a surprise because one of the proposals for the 928 was identical. Ferry Porsche didn't like it, so we got the 928 in purer form.

I know Porsche want to increase volume, but the Boxster and 911 plus a new 928 (200 mph autobahn GT) would surely have kept them alive without the Cayenne.

As things stand the 911 will soon be outclassed (on paper - maybe not on the road?) by all sorts of things, despite the improvements in the pipeline.

Although likely to be a modest performer when it arrives, the seductive new Alfa tempts...
