Germany - Black Forest (and more)
Discussion
Evening all
The wife & I are leaving next Saturday to drive down to Lake Maggiore in Italy. The route we've planned is Calais- Strasbourg - into Germany - down through the Black Forest - into Switzerland and then over the Alps to Maggiore.
I think I've got the Alps bit sorted (thanks to various threads here) but not sure what to expect with the Black Forest. Any one driven through and got any recommendations - roads to do and things to see, and places to stay?
We've just under a week to get there. Return route is via Chamonix for a few days in the mountains.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers
Jez

Sorry, missed your earlier post otherwise I would have made some suggestions.
The Black Forest is my favourite area to drive in. It is by passed by most people desperate to get to the Alps.
Dont get me wrong, I love the Alps too, but for instance the B500 south of Baden Baden is just manic. The roads in the Black Forest are open sweeping bends, with wonderful surfaces and easy to find hotels.
Best to find a detailed map, and just drive round

Am back now and can confirm that the roads through the Black Forest are absolutely superb.
Also made it down to the Alps to take in the Sustenpass Pass, Grimsel Pass and Furka Pass - all immense.
And to top it off, we did the Grasse to Sisteron section of the Route Napoleon, plus a selection of the N959 and N996 near Lyon.
All recommended to anyone heading that way.
