Having a trip with a couple of chicks this weekend in DC, anyone been? We have some pointers like the Lincoln Memorial and the White House of course, but what bars in what area to hit?

Bearing in mind i'll be with 2 chicks, i'm not planning on hitting any t*tty bars so that suggestion is non starter.

Cheers.

Rog.

From what I've heard about DC, highest priority is trying not to get shot at or robbed at gun point, generally try to stay alive.

Other than the already listed (white house, war memorial), sorry nothing more to add.

Give Hooters a try, I was there with a few girls too - they wanted to go as much as I did. It's just a burger joint with (usually) hot girls in shorts and low cut tops. There were families in there when I was in.

Or, tour of the capitol building was pretty good. But the best was a ride along with the police in DC7, wildest night I have ever had with my clothes on or without a drink in my hand

For blokey, internal combustion indulgence, do the National Air and Space Museum.

The Udvar Hazey centre at Dulles is good and arguably more enjoyable, but the National Mall site has some more iconic artifacts - the Apollo 11 Command Module, the Bell X1, Wright Flyer, Spirit of St. Louis, Touchable moon rock etc.

Dulles has bigger stuff, and is more 'museumy' - examples include Enterprise (Space Shuttle Prototype), Enola Gay - Tibbet's B29 that dropeed the bomb on hiroshima.

Washington DC was so good for a weekend away I ended up getting an internal flight to NYC, and then the following day to Niagra. Was bored after an afternoon there - saw the whitehouse but after that there's not much. I think NYC was only a couple of hours away on the plane so you can do that in the day!

I live in NYC, i always heard good things about DC though, we happen to have some work down there on Friday so i thought i would make a weekend of it and come back Monday. Slightly more worrying for me though, i'll be down there with a couple of (nice) chicks from work and not told my girlfriend. rolleyes

I've told her I'm staying for the weekend as its Labour Day and every time she's asked me who else is going, i've conveniently changed the subject, so far so good.

meal, bar, club & an entirely disgusting sex session thereafter.

Is that the point of this thread. Are you hoping to drop some panties?

Another vote for the National Air and Space Museum. You have to remember that many of the aircraft on display there are actually THE famous aircraft that performed great aviation feats.

The Bell X-1 is THE X-1 that first broke the sound barrier.
The Wright Flyer is THE Flyer flown by the Wrights on 17 December 1903.
The Ryna NYP is THE "Spirit of St Louis" flown acros the Atlantic by Linberg in 1927.

I visted in 1984 and I expect it's even better now. I'd love to go to the Udvar Hezy museum at Dulles. It didn't exist in 1984.

In fact, all of the Smithsonian museums are well worth visiting.

Spy museum?
Zoo?
National Geographic usually has good photography exhibitions.
War memorials are cool (Korean one in particular)
Holocaust museum...not exactly a laugh a minute, granted.
National Buildings museum or something, waaaay more interesting than it sounds (best thing I went to, including all the Smithsonians)

Well, I took my teenaged daughter there two years ago. We spent the whole day there and part of the next morning too. She loved it!

O.K I lied, she was bored stiff but I enjoyed it and that's what matters shirley?

DC is a fantastic city, I went for a week in 2005 and am going again in November this year.

I felt completely at home there, wandered around the city at all hours and never had a problem.

In no particular order:

Vietnam war memorial
capitol building
supreme court (you can sit and listen to arguments if the supremes are in session)
Lincoln memorial
Museum of American history (be warned, it's possible to lose whole days in there)
White house tour
FBI tour
Bureau of printing and engraving tour
Take the metro to the pentagon and marvel at the size of the place
Arlington memorial cemetary (it's fine to watch a military funeral, just be respectful)
The tomb of the unknown soldier

There are literally dozens more things, I did not want to leave DC and I can't wait to be back there.

Bar wise, can't really help you as they're not my thing, but I went to a bar called madam's organ (in the adams morgan district) most nights that was a lot of fun.

Where are you staying accommodation wise?

Nice city. Good clean efficient public transport system, amazing round the national monument and the White house.

Another vote for National Air and Space. Though you could easily spend 2 days just doing the museums along that strip.

Although, not going to be very effective if your end game is pants down action. But you can do that anytime.
