Booked a trackday to Silverstone will be driving the South circuit. I've not been there before so would like to learn the track on a game before I go.

Question is, although there are a lot of games featuring Silverstone, I don't know of one which contains the Southern Circuit configuration.

I've got all formats from the last 10 years bar PS3, so all suggestions of game welcome regardless of format. Many thanks.

Hmmmm... I don't think there is one. The southern circuit, is the part of the GP circuit furthest from the pits (as you probably know). Best bet is to just use the GP circuit layout and concentrate on the bits from Becketts to Abbey.

TOCA Race driver 3 has it iirc, but it might not be right and the cars are nowhere near realistic.

Just watch this a few times

iRacing has the most realistic version of Silverstone ever, plus the best online racing in any game.

www.iracing.com

Failing that, get rFactor.

I'd wait until you're on the track to start learning it. No game is ever going to give you the same experience.

Just use the first session to learn the corners and gradually build up your speed.

No need to rush, and no need to believe you'll be Hewis Lamilton when you arrive just because you've done 4,000 laps of it on aaah-faktor on an XBoss-9000.

Grand Prix Legends? Someone _must_ have created a Southern Circuit configuration of Silverstone.

I did my ARDS test around the southern circuit years ago, and the only thing that has come close to it is iRacings layout.

iRacing have laser scanned every track in the simulation, for the purpose of being used as a driver training aid. Id say its spot on from my experience.

He's not looking for the same experience, he just wants to become familiar with the track layout.

It sounds like a great idea, many professional drivers do the same thing, I'm sure it will help you too.

I recommend IRacing.

But iRacing has not done the South Circuit, no game has because it's a circuit that is only used for testing or trackdays I don't think it has ever been used for racing since it doesn't have any pit facilities.

iracing has scanned the entire venue (apart from the stowe track in the centre of the place). There are 5 layouts in total available in iracing.

GP
Southern
National
International
Historic GP

When running the Southern circuit youre pitted just before Vale/Club, on a strip of tarmac that runs along the wall, which is slightly different from real life (where youll enter on the inside of Stowe, having most likely come from the infield school track).

Theyve done the same at every track theyve been to (it doesnt hurt so much to drop a few quid on silverstone when you get most of the layouts to drive). For training purposes the layout is an exact match for the real thing.

Oh, that is unusual then. Although when you think of all the other tracks made foe games if the main one is modelled properly then it doesn't take much to do all the combinations.

People allways say this on here, yet f1 drivers still use them to check out new circuits.

Thanks for all the input guys. I've ordered a copy of TOCA Race Driver 3 for Xbox. Hopefully it will play on my Xbox360.

While I have all the consoles, one thing I don't currently have is an up to date gaming PC. Hence I'll try out the console game first.

Cheers again.

But F1 teams have there own multimillion dollar simulators these days.

They dont just have a 30" TV and a PS3 in there bedroom.

As ive not done any real racing I cant comment on how useful it would be, but I would imagine that unless the sim is very close to real life it would be next to useless.

I think it would be possible to drive this in rfactor when you run the international circuit if you turn the flag rules off, you'd just need to turn the wrong way at abbey! There are quite a few versions of silverstone on rfactor, but I'm pretty sure one of them doesn't have barriers to block you doing that.

I think it can be done by loading the track into Trkmaker find out what the walls or track blocking items are then open up the file that calls on the objects and comment out the ones you don't need.

The PC version of RD3 was fairly well honed (sp?) if I remember rightly, so you won't need an awesome machine for it.

RD3 doesn't currently appear on the backwards compatibility list (unless I'm just being a dumbass and not seeing it), so you may have to dig out the XBOX for this. Before anyone has a go at me about this, we (the developers) don't "implement" this support. I haven't really looked into the reasons why a game is/isn't on the list, but I can ask my account manager if anyone is really interested smile
