Rear wheel inner arch clearance
Discussion
What I forgot to mention is that the car will be having wider arches so will look a bit odd with the standard spiders or similar. I'm not going into it too much as I know that doing anything to the mighty cerb is a no no in some peoples eyes but I would appreciate any approximations even if they vary.
Thanks Simon

My Cerb would occasionally rub one wheel against the outer arch on bumpy roads. I thought it might be useful to shave some material off the inner portion of the wheel centre, to effectively move the whole wheel inwards slightly, however I couldn't satisfy myself there was adequate clearance through the whole range of suspension movement. You'd need to remove your springs and do a test.

Can any one tell me an approximate dimension of the clearance between the inner arch and the inner edge of the alloy/tyre wall at the rear. I am trying to work what alloys to fit.
Thanks Simon
I would like some 300+ rear tyres on mine, what arches have you discovered? Thanks Simon
I haven't actually found any but I have spoken to a local fibreglass company that I use alot, do loads of carbon fibre bits and bobs, thay do alot of work on a twin bike engined, single seat hill climber but can't remmeber what it's called, anyway, they would be happy to undertake the modification to the body as it's off of the chassis at the moment whilst I rebuild from scratch replacing rotted chassis rails etc. I keep watching the video of martin shorts ex. gt car, and finding pictures of the early type speed 12 cerb, and the early british gt v8 cerb with the bulging bonnet. I'll be honest I like the gt look and I'm having the exhausts running along the sills, covered of course along with deeper front apron and rear diffuser moulded in to the rear. I think the large wing would be a bit ott for the road but you never know.
I was looking at a set of Kahn RSV alloys, 9x20 at the front or 11x20 at the rear, that is why I was curious about the inner arch clearance, according to the company the aston martin runs on the same 5 x 114.3 pcd but has an offset on the rear of 25, this works out I think to reduce the inner clearance by 40 mm but increase the outer wheel edge by around 60mm. Trouble is I'm not sure if the wheels are too big and I can't afford to take a gamble, I like the compomotive MO6's aswell. The wheels need to be right to make the whole car look right in my opinion.

Yea, the clearence will be different on each car. On my race car with the standard wheels one side had an inch clearence the other had 2 inches!
So to make life easier we have no inner wheel arches!! The outer arch is slightly wider and a different profile slightly. Due to the amount of camber we run we didnt need to extend the arches in the end.

Surprise, didn't see that comment coming, each to their own. Back to the clearance issue, did I read sometime back that you had to modify your rear inner arches or am I imagining it. Can you remember what kind of gap there is to play with?
ET is 33? on mine with 265/18 i have no issues, but i dont think you would want to come in much further than that. You cannot put an RV8 in it!!! I heard my old Chimaera just won a shootout at 275bhp, that was one i put big valve heads on, high comp pistons, big plenum etc, it beat the 500's that were there, so it really would be a sheep in wolves clothing!!!Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
