A Bad Time To Fly?
Discussion
In the last few weeks it would appear that it is a terrible time to fly.
Quantas don't seem to be able to fly to a destination without some sort of mishap diverting them.
2 drunk women tried to open the door of a plane mid flight.
The Spanair crash.
The ITEK Air crash.
A Thomsonfly plane caught fire.
A Ryanair flight losing pressure and being diverted.
And tonight another Ryanair flight being diverted because of mushroom soup.
All this must be in the space of about 4 or 5 weeks
What the hell is going on?

The soup leaked onto the man from a jar in an overhead locker on a flight from Budapest to Dublin on Monday, the airline said.
His neck reportedly swelled up and he struggled to breathe, forcing the plane to divert for emergency medical help.
Whatever happened to the no liquids onboard rule (well apart from small quantities in a sealed bag), I know Ryan Air food is crap and overpriced but do we now have to contend with soup smugglers !!!!!

Heightened media interest?

There are issues or faults on many many more aircraft and flights than you get to hear about...including the flights you are on.
The media keep jumping up and down about Quantarse aircraft landing with 20 faults that endangered the life of twelvity million people *cut to interview with guy who was going to book that flight but flew a week later instead*....what they always fail to tell you is what those faults actually were. Nearly all flights will land with a list of crap passengers broke or with something that fell off in someones hand but are never a safety concern.
2 light aircraft collided in mid air yesterday over our suburb round about lunch time, one plane managed to land the other unfortunately plummeted straight down and killed the pilot, who was on his first solo flight, Indian chappie. someone caught the doomed plane on camera

Nothing going on.
The Thompsonfly flight did not "catch fire" FFS. It had a fire in the oven. Now where do you thin the best place for a tiny fire on board an aircraft is? In the cabin? Cockpit? Or a small sealed metal box designed to cope with enormous temperatures?
Checklist for dealing with Oven fires.
CLOSE DOOR
TURN OFF
LEAVE IT ALONE.
The Spanair accident was a tragedy, but the rest of this stuff is nothing more than a bunch of minor incidents. A depressurisation and a bloke with a mushroom allergy. Oooooooh. The wheels are coming off the industry.
Seriously, get a grip.
And it QANTAS not f'in QUANTAS. Queensland And Northern Territories Air Service. No U in that. (Or Queers And Nyphomaniacs Train As Stewards)

We had 2 light planes collide over Coombe Abbey a couple of weeks ago, all occupants killed
I was in Melbourne today and the very sad mid-air collision dominated the local news.
I don't live too far from Coombe Abbey where something similar happened recently. All over the Midlands news of course.
I work in Spain a fair amount. Spanair sound like some sort of outfit..
I did try to get a Qantas flight back to Blighty today but they were sold out. Hm.
So it's 24 hours with BA for me tomorrow. I'll be reading about all this in the newspapers they give out on board. So that's all right then as statistically you're more likely to wake up in bed with the Pope than, er, than whatever.
If this is my last post......

Below is a speech by an Aussie investigator...only in Australia

Aussie investigator said:
investigators needed to inspect the wreckage to find out if anything on the aircraft was missing, out of alignment or not working.
"At the moment, we've got most of the wreckage but there are a few bits that have been found in the vicinity where the aircraft collided," Mr Watson told reporters out the front of the crash site in Silver Street, Cheltenham.
"If anyone finds any bits around their houses or on the ground, if they could call the ATSB on 1800 020 616.
"We want to find the bits but more importantly we want to find out where those bits landed because then we can reconstruct from the point of impact backwards which is up in the air."
