The Ring - 7 Sept - Help
Discussion
Okay, so I'm preparing to go to the Nurburgring for the first time, and will be on the Sunday, 7 Sept.
As I've never done it before, a few cliff notes couldnt hurt. I've got some track experience, but how does the ring work? Helmets required, along with what clothing? How busy is it on the Sunday? Will we be able to get about 4 runs in?
Any track notes, things to avoid, and generally some of the unwritten rules would be greatly appreciated.
Oh yes, any recommendations for some cheap and cheerful places to stay too.

1. Best to take a helmet if you want to get a paxlap in a car with a cage.As I've never done it before, a few cliff notes couldnt hurt. I've got some track experience, but how does the ring work? 2. Full Nomex gear is required at all times, including Balaclava, full race suit, fireproof pants and footwear.
3. It will be busy busy on Sunday if the weather's nice, morning's and late afternoons are the quietest.
4. Keep to the right, only pass on the left, watch out for oil spills, watch out for fast bikes and cars, don't overdrive yourself or your car, take your time to learn the track, expect to be slow and live with it, don't be lured into a race by a lesser vehicle.
Have fun

No, you don't need to wear a helmet, the choice is yours.
Oh, and I was only kidding about the fireproofs, you can turn up in your swimming trunks and drive if you like, it's "Touristenfahrt", ie. Grandad behind the wheel of his old Mercedes 220D with his pipe, slippers, and Miss Daisy by his side can roll up, buy a ticket, and do a lap

You best hope and pray it is not as busy as it was this weekend. Yesterday, it took us 2.5 hours, to get from the Brünnchen parking place, get fuel, drive track and get back to parking after taking a few diversions to avoid horrendous traffic, then getting lost due to closed roads (Hohe Acht road)! Never seen it so busy...

Not good
Car is getting a little camber, and bushes replaced. Looking forward to this trip!
I was there this last weekend, for the first time.
It was busy, but even with the track closed for at least 4 hours on saturday I managed 11 laps over the two days.
What worked for us was arriving early, getting in a few laps, soaking up the atmosphere, then going out for a drive and lunch to escape the mayhem, then back late afternoon for another set of laps.
