Im not even sure this is possible, but here goes. I've got a couple of my cars that are currently on a ship heading to the UK. When they get here the DVLA give me 6 months to register it in the UK, so what I want to do is drive it on the Saudi plates until I need to register it.

Does anyone know of any company in the UK that will insure on the chassis number? Most companies i've spoken to will only cover it for 2-4 weeks, enough time to get the SVA done.

Thanks in advance.

Hi mate,

Think you will find that very tricky now as there has been a huge crack down on "foreign plated" cars by the police and insurance companies in general. You might be able to do it via a trade policy, but even my one doesn't like chassis numbers for too long. But getting a trade policy in itself is a mission itself.

Can you not get international insurance from Saudi to cover you until the car is UK registered?

Why not just get the SVA done soon as it lands, maybe you just want to avoid speeding tickets driving

I had it for years here in Belgium. But most insurance companies don't like it, for some weird reason...

Thanks for all the responses guys. To answer some of the questions:

Unfortunately my insurers in Saudi wouldnt cover me over here.

No real reason why I want to keep it on Saudi plates apart form the fact that I want to be different! Not planning on speeding or anything, and im sure they will just catch up with me when I come to register it anyway.

Someone mentioned a trade policy. Im actually on the phone waiting to find out how much its gonna cost! Lets hope its not too much.
