Bogus call from companies house
Discussion
Had a phone call this morning from a withheld number. The guy at the other end asked for the MD details, when I asked what it was in connection with he said he was ringing from Companies House and they were updating their database.
I told him I did not believe he was in fact calling from Companies House, and dont call again. He then said that as I had refused to give the MD details a fine would be sent out in tonights post. PMSL
We traced the call to a London Based marketing company and rang them back. They were a little astonished we had traced the call and I read them the riot act.
Anybody else had similair calls?

Not yet - but thanks for the warning.
Companies House have no need to contact companies regarding "updates". It is entirely the company's own responsibility to notify Companies House of any relevant amendments that need to be made of the details held for that company at Companies House.

That's how it works, isn't it??
Routing records at the exchange? Or a prefix when dialling out, in a similar way BT engineers have coded numbers to reach the exchange as a phone installer doing a test. Numbers like 174 or 178 spring to mind. In fact, may as well call the exchange as an engineer doing a test and request details of the last incoming call.
