Non-English Managers
Discussion
I've just heard that Alex Ferguson is not releasing Owen Hargreaves for England's next international.
Raffa Benitez is also not allowing Stephen Gerard to be released for England duty.
Both cite injury worries - although both players are still available for playing for their clubs.
It really does seem to me that this phenomenon of having non-English managers of English teams does seem to be having a detrimental effect on English team squad selections. Is their some sort of conspiracy afoot?

Gerrard has been playing with a groin injury since pre-season. I believe he had an operation yesterday and will be out for around 15 days, missing the England games but also our games against Villa and Utd.
Edit: Also I don't believe Hargreaves has appeared for Utd yet this season - they are on a 2nd string midfield at the moment.

Club versus country is a perennial discussion point in football. I just think that having non-English managers managing English clubs has created additional problems for the selection of the England team.
As a matter of interest, does anyone know how many of the Premiership sides are managed by English managers?

blackburn, bolton, fulham, hull, middlesbrough, newcastle, portsmouth, west brom, west ham and wiganso all the good ones

long gone are the days when a player would have walked over broken glass to play for their country, too much money has turned footballers into a legion of girls blouses who could`nt give a f--k about their country, and tell their manager to f off, I want to play.Anything less than a broken leg is no excuse at all.
Obviously the move towards internationalism regarding players and managers began a while ago. But now the whole ownership and financial structures behind these clubs are moving "off shore" in a massive way.
I think what we are seeing now is even more fundamental than just hiring foreign players or managers.
