I dont know if any of you guys have been eagerly awaiting the release of the open beta client for WAR but its now available to download once you log in to war-europe.com

Open beta officially opens to those who have pre-purchased the collectors edition on 8th Sept. This may also be the case for the standard edition you will have to check.

For those of you that haven't a clue what i am talking about i highly recommend watching this awesome theatrical trailer for the game thats being televised in the US at the moment. Its superb. Think World of warcraft but more violent !

From what I understand, isn't this just basically WoW with a more pvp element thrown in, in the case of the realm vs realm battles? Bit harsh an assumption I know but I can't see them drawing people away from Wow with it, likewise I can't see them luring new players in that WoW didn't...

I'm a level 70 priest on wow and have played for quite a few years and i would say it is and it isnt like wow. In war you will be able to progress purely by pvp etc or you can progress purely by questing...you should in theory be constantly contributing to your factions cause no matter what path you take. So the smallest of actions should in theory still count towards your own progression and the side you are fighting for. There shouldnt be any grinding for rep so you can get the epic gear.. these things in theory should come to you purely based on your participation and contribution towards the cause.

In wow its a solitary experience at times unless you are in a guild and dungeoning. Questing is a chore and you often have to repeat yourself to get where you want. This should be less of an issue in war.

Its a massive subject but thats just a taste. You should look at the podcasts on warhammeronline.com about the game engine if you are interested. Dont get me wrong WOW is great and well polished (so it shoul d be given how long its been online) but is does lack a sense of belonging and fighting for your side. No-one seems bothered if the horde are attacking your capital. Its too early to say if war will steal the fanbase to a large enough level to be considered the new benchmark for MMO's.. its only when its had some time to mature and be polished and tweaked (like wow has had) that we'll be able to see if its a stayer. I am quite happy to run both and i am betting plenty of other people will also. They offer different things so there is no reason they cant co-exist if we wanted them to... all depends on how it matures to be honest.
