thinking of making a trip to Nancy in a few weeks time to follow my team in the Euro footie and toying with the idea of driving - reckon its about 700-800 miles each way. Anyone on here driven those roads in northern France and got any recommondations on routes to take/avoid, places to see along the way, is it worth going on to Strasbourg through the mountains?

Recently drove down to the Tirol in Austria for our hols. On the way back we stopped off to see the abandoned pits and grandstands at the old GP circuit just outside Reims. Always an interesting stop for petrolheads.

Not really familiar enough with that route to suggest anywhere else specifically worth visiting or avoiding, but generally I've always found the motorways in France to be pretty quiet, much less congested than the UK anyway.

The North of France is great for driving. As said already, motorways are less congested. Stick to the speed limits though and watch out for the different speed limits for wet and dry weather. Oh, and the cost of driving on the motorways is not cheap!

One restaurant I woud absolutely rave about is in Saint Omer and it is called Le Cygne. It is THE best restaurant I have ever been to so if in the area try it.

The french seem to love my Monaro (especially in Paris, that is a different story).

Enjoy!
