So, my car has been in my garage in the UK since July 18, and I can't remember if I declared it SORN before I came back to Portugal. I am returning to UK on Sept 5, and need to use the car. Wanting to play it straight and make sure the car is taxed I go on www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/ and spend fking ages picking ing bingo numbers to be led down a maze that ends with message telling me to call another number, where there will be real person to help me. So I call the next number to be told sorry we can't help you as w'ere all on fking strike. Yeah on a Friday. Nice long weekend. You lazy s.

So how can I find out before Monday if my car is taxed. The MOT expires Sunday and it's booked for test when I get back to UK on Friday afternoon. So I won't get the chance to tax it if required before next weekend ................ which is why was driving without road tax.

Have I made myself understood............... your honour.

Try here.

ETA: Sorry, didn't realise you'd put the link in your post. But it does give you the facility to check if your car is taxed or not though online.

You should be so lucky. The unwillingness/inability of a government department to do it's job is still, somehow, going to be your fault if you are caught. T*****s frown

Go to this page : http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/ and follow the "Vehicle enquiry" link.

The "Date of Liability" is the day after the tax runs out.

thanks for that. Car is taxed so happy driving

Doesn't excuse the lazy welsh gits for striking though. I guess half of them used to work down pit, and must have inherited the strike gene wink

When(!) I get get into power, one of my first tasks is to scrap road tax (put on fuel instead, pay for what you use etc.) which also saves money as I can get rid of most of DVLA! It will only exist for registration etc.
