I am getting married in August next year in Farnham, whilst I am aware there is a large gulf between bargain basement snaps and top notch ones I was wondering if there is either anyone on here who is pro/semi pro at taking wedding snaps or knows anyone in the N Hampshire area.

Just looking for a decent photographer who will produce a disk with all the photos on (untouched) if they can provide a touch up service, oh err, then so be it.

I open the floor to the PH knowledge.

Many Thanks

Alex.

By the way looks like Canon UK may repair my IXUS 960 IS for 88 quid, so a bit of a result.

Can't help with contacts, but worth pointing out a couple of things. Wedding photographers tend to earn money in one of two ways - cheap package and make money off prints, album etc afterwards (getting less popular now) OR charge more and hand over rights to the couple (though they may offer "extras"(!) on top). This means they're more likely to be relaxed, and capture the day rather than concentrating on the shots (ie family groups etc) that will earn them money. I'd go for the latter, but do allow them to clean the images up a little bit - you really don't want the files direct from the camera for a variety of technical and artistic reasons.

Style wise you get the traditional photographers that shoot only standard shots, usually the same poses they have been using for years (but make good framed prints), or the more modern photojournalism style, where the aim is to catch the full events of the day, from the tears to the laughter. Again, talk to a few, and check out their portfolios to get the style you want. If you have any friends that are handy they maybe able to capture some of the photojournalistic stuff alongside a pro doing the standard stuff.

Also ask what you are getting - ceremony only or will they be there from getting ready to the end of the reception? Do you really want one that naffs of the minute the cake is cut?

Lastly, and this is quite important, make sure you have a good rapport with the photographer. If he is happy to lead you in a way that everyone is relaxed and natural your photographs will be so much better. If you are really serious consider paying for a trial session with a couple of togs to see how you get on and what the results are like. The photographer should be like another friend at the wedding, but one that blends into the background so you forget they are there!

Thanks for the heads up, both my brothers have DSLR's which they can use in anger to varying effects.

I will check out the PH's first.

Thanks for the heads up.

Edit: I have found Simpo and PR, anyone got a link to Emma?

Somewhere in the middle!

Yes and yes. The photos you get (typically 450) are not quite 'untouched'; they are processed from RAW and made as perfect as possible before supplying as hi-res JPG. I'm currently offering an optional free Photoshop session afterwards for black and white conversions or any other effects you may like.

You're lucky, my last repair was over £400 and that was just a lens!

I recommend Hazel Thompson at True Image (http://www.hazelthompson.com/) or (http://www.trueimage.co.uk). She did ours a couple of years ago, and was nothing less than sensational.

Her fees have gone up, but then they would with an Observer Hodge Award sitting behind her, but worth a call.

My sister had Mark Sisley do her wedding a couple of years ago - very nice guy, and produced some of the best wedding photos I've seen (all taken on Medium Format and scanned I think). IIRC, they got all the photos on disk instead of having an album.

This was one of theirs:

He is somewhat pricey though:

'No photos during the service' said the vicar, 'you have to stay at the back'. I hate that, but what can you do? Get out the D700 and try some ambient stuff from the back, that's what. The adults look forwards but the children look round...
