I'm just sick of the news. I'm sure the media are loving it, telling us all how badly off we are. Like we don't know!?! Like the old Stanley Holloway monologue...'My word you do look queer'. Think about it.

Just ignore them.

They only sell newspapers with misery, and the news is all about sensationalism.

The media love constantly predicting downturns when things are good, all it does is reduce confidence. I hope they take the same effort to predict up turns and predict economic improvement.

There was a time when they would tell you the news, they would tell you what was actually happening. Now all they do is look at you and ask questions, inviting you to text or e-mail your opinion.

Could be "Do you think this potentially life saving drug should be made available on the NHS?" or could just as easily be "Do you think this unproven and potentially dangerous drug should be prescribed?".

Here's an idea, why don't you just tell us about the drug, tell us why it has or hasn't been approved. Interview people who know, who can tell us the whys and hows, not idiots who just have an opinion depending on whether they are for or against. We want facts not opinions, and we certainly don't want MOP's opinion, WTF do we know? only the hyped up biased opinions that have been presented as news.

We want news, not views.

And please stop showing us graphs that make a 0.03% increase and drop in something look like a side drawing of Mount Everest, pan out a bit so we can see that it is in fact just a very minor and totally inconsequential blip in the grand scheme of things, and nothing like the 'massive rise' and 'dramatic fall' you are telling us.

hehe

Ben Goldacre did an interesting column about the media hype surrounding the 'MMR Hoax'

If I was a media mogul and fancied making a few more bob, I reckon a newspaper that did only good news and put a positive spin on everything would sell rather well.

Until then, it's just the Daily Sport. hehe

Whenever one reads a newspaper that is covering something in which you personally were involved or something in which you really undertand, the standard of coverage is laughably poor - inadequate research, incorrect facts, piss-poor understanding of the issues, half-arsed conclusions, etc. So, by a process of deduction, everything else in the paper is probably to the same level - ie st.

You'd be stone dead wrong!

Can you remember when the TV 'news' shows tried ending all the broadcasts with heart-warming stories about saved puppies? It was sickening.

People want bad news (happening to someone else, 'natch).

I agree, I am sure its got worse over the last 12 months or so. Or maybe I have just noticed it more, just so it pisses me off.

BBC are the worse, and BBC 24 seem to have constant drivle to fill up that 24 hour news feed or drivle. rolleyes

They will still be saying "UK on the brink of a long and deep recession" in june 2009. If they stop going on about it then maybe people/businesses will spend the money they are holding onto.

I have a mate who is a commercial property developer- that builds the buidling infrastructure etc and runs the whole thing as a business when its finished - he said that they have shelved 15% of their planned work, and while he has no doubt that there is a need to invest in these schemes his share holders have the jitters.

Bastids.

I agree about the crap you get at the end of the news, the puppies crap and all the stuff that's meant to make people go aah.. I mean putting a more positive spin on stuff opposed to the seemingly always negative stuff we get now. Anyway, in the meantime....getmecoat
