merc s500 electrical problems
Discussion
i have some info which may benefit s500 owners as follows:
water ingress into fuse panel under bonnet on this model:
any water in here, will rot connectors and even worse pins on engine ecu module and module under fuse /relay block which controls air suspension.IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT FUSE BOX LID IS SECURED PROPERLY if not VERY EXPENSIVE DAMAGE WILL RESULT TO THESE MODULES.
i stripped out all the above from the above model, and managed to clean it all up, but some pins had broken off these modules which are very thin in any case, merc guy said cant be repaired ,but
they can be with care ,merc wanted ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED POUNDS, took me 45 minutes to fix both,
using wire, some soldering, and sealing compound, everything works fine, guy is delighted as you would expect, to close, if you have problems with engine not starting, or running badly, or air suspension issues, it may well be due to this water ingress problem .if you suspect this, first, examine ALL CONNECTORS, IF CORROSION PRESENT, ALMOST DEFINATELY DAMAGE TO PINS ON MODULES,THIS WILL REQUIRE THOROUGH CLEAN UP, USING FINE BRUSH, AND WD40, ALL PINS MUST BE CLEAN AND STRAIGHT, WHEN YOUVE DONE ALL THIS, AND NOT MISSING EVEN ONE PIN FROM MODULES, RECONNECT IT ALL, AND YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY AND IT WILL ALL WORK ,IF NOT EMAIL ME, AS THIS PIN REPAIR IS TRICKY TO PERFORM REGARDS RICHARD.
