Military scientists have recruited private industry to implement this to the Armed Forces and subsequently licensed the use of this technology in private industry. Starting with footwear, it's uses are endless!

Goretex shares? Sell them quick!

What if you get a 'booty'? Would they never dry out?

A boot full of water.

Wellington Boots are perfectly waterproof, but the water can always get in through the hole at the top! How would these be any different?

Err, i think wellingtons would probably stay the same.

Think more, walking boots, trainers, trousers, shirts, jackets. See the tie demo in the link to Hi-tex (bbc news clip towards the end). No more canteen medals!

I am. All of them have holes in them so you can put them on! But, surely once the water is inside, it'll just be trapped there? I suppose it can drip out the bottom of trousers, but in any kind of shoe surely you are just back to the Wellie squelching?

I think I see what you mean about canteen medals, though I was tempted to add a 'Wah?' of my own for a mo...

I suppose, but at least it wouldn't be soaking into the fabric. Wet trainer, stop, take off, empty carry on. Dry trainer.

It says the matrial is still breathable, in other words, water can get out. It's just that the fabric repels water so doesn't stay wet.

yes For a rain-coat, 'better than GoreTex' will be brilliant in the rain.

But, for shoes? If water can get out, it can get in, and you can always fill a shoe from the top if the water is deep enough. For shallow water wellies are ideal, but if you'll be up to your crotch you'll wish you had sandals or flip flops 'cos they'll dry out much faster, and this just seems to be in the middle, just like GoreTex is now.

Hey-ho. If they just use it for brollies they'll do fine.

The big flaw though is a surface coating will be subject to abrasion thus wearing off - much like current DWR coatings. I won't be throwing my goretex out just yet.

Is it a surface coating? Looks like all the fabric fibres are impregnated to me.

Your right - missed that bit. But some DWR treatments are wash in so coat the fibres. Still doesn't stop them from being very short lived though.

I do hope that it proves to be a permanent effect, as goretex and the various copies are generally crap.
