Ok, no replies of 'worst, I've got a large house post' evah, please.

Today I had a bit of a sort out in our study, now this room we have just used as a dumping ground and I don't think we have even been in there for the past 18 months, other than to reset the WiFi router.

Anyway, the room is now functional, all cleared out, I've even been to the tip. I put a table and chair in the room, tidied everything up and set up my printer and a few other bits in there, It now feels like we have had an extension and I'm cursing myself thinking of all that time I have been effectively paying for the room but not using it at all.

Which leads me on to the other rooms we never use,

2nd master bedroom
2nd Bathroom
3rd Bedroom
4th Bedroom

And before today the study could have been included too.

Feck, a smaller house and a Ferrari 456GTM in the garage is getting very tempting. I mean what is the point in having the rooms if you never use them at all.

Maybe its just me looking at all the life is to short posts on here....

It's a good post.

We have a 4 bed house with garage conversion - and its just me and the mrs.

We have master ensuite and Bed 2 is guest bedroom. Bed 3 is a dressing room for OH with wardrobes galore and Bed 4 is the study from where I'm typing this. The garage conversion (done before we bought the house) has a sofa bed, gym and is an Xbox room with a big plasma on the walland surround sound. Living room has a plasma as well. It's a decent set-up and we like it. Just going through planning to build an external garage now smile

Great idea making more rooming into usable living space, there is only me and the mrs here too.

My old dining room was like that, only used it a couple of times when we had parents round for dinner so got it knocked through to the kitchen to make it a decent size.

I think a lot of the trouble is with new builds wanting to state 4/5 beds on the sale literature when in square footage wise they may well not be any larger than an old 3 bed place.

We have two spare bedrooms and a spare study. And Master bathroom which the guests use. I am giving serious consideration to renting them out, though the other half is not happy to share......

i have an OH but live alone in a 4 bed, 2 bath house with 2 receptions.

ok much of it is under renovation, but its going to be far too big for me when its done. am thinking of using the box room [next to main bed & one of the bathrooms] as a kind of walk in wardrobe, and another bedroom as a study/music room. that'll leave me with one main bedroom and a guest bedroom.................

..............if i stay here which is bloody unlikely given how much i hate where i live and, increasingly, the uk in general smile

Thinking slightly more widely, it's often struck me that as the population of our road ages the houses have such a lot of surplus capacity.

Out of 24 3-5 bedroom, decent sized family houses, only 3 have kids still at home (and in 2 of those, the "kids" are in their 20's). In 5 of the houses there's only one fairly elderly occupant.

I Live alone in a 3 bed / 3 bath detached, but it is a new build so it has the floor space of a caravan.

One bed flat, but with a nice big loft for storage and a garage.

It's all I need, perfect location, so I'm planning to be here for a few years.

It's nice having lots of space as long as you use it, if I moved to a 2 or 3 bed place I would definitely have a games room smile and that along with a garden and double garage are the only reasons I'd move.

I have a 7 bed house, 3 shower rooms, 2 studies, kitchen, lounge, utility room, with an attached garage and detached workshop.

Now with only the wife, myself and the dog, we only use one bedroom, shower room, study, kitchen, dining room, utility room and workshop, rest of the rooms are filled up with effects that were purchased for the 3 children when they were young and lived at home.

I have considered down sizing, but both our family memories of our home, also having a rural location with plenty of parking spaces, have so far put off any move to a smaller home.

if i had a stupidly large house, i'd just knock some of the walls out and have more usable living space. huge master suite would be nice and some grand rooms downstairs

i can't see the point of a labyrinth of rooms i wouldn't use, but i love having space. my house is about 1500sqft and i'd say this is the minimum i'd want for me and a future wife, poss. small child.

would trade a little space for a garage, don't have one at the mo frown

More to the point, at just one property or across my portfolio?

Back to reality...2 bed house, just me although the 2nd bedroom is officially my little boy`s room for when he is with me. Does my shed count as a spare room?
