We went to the annual Spanish Tomato throwing festival last Wednesday at Bunyol, bout 30 kms west of Valencia.

they drive in dozens of trucks filled with tomatoes and then have a 2 hour chuck fest and everybody gets totally ketchuped

After the event all the locals help out with their hose pipes to swill down the splattered participants.

At the end there are all manner of articles left lying around that cannot be used again, the tomatoes stink to high heaven!!

It was dificult to avoid getting splattered. I just took my G9 at first but later on went back for the 5D with 75-200 2.8 Lucky for me I managed to escape with just a minor splash of puree.
My daughter's boyfriend got stuck in and he was totally covered. At 34 degrees it is just a bit uncomfortable to be standing like a sun drenched tomato after the event.

I just love the way the Spanish stick two fingers up to such a long list of "well-meaning" do-gooder types that we would pander to in England. We wouldn't be able to run this at all because:
- waste of food that could be sent to the starving or fed to fluffy kittens
- waste of carbons trucking all the tomatos around
- waste of water hosing down all the people and the streets
- elf and safety issues with slipping over, tomato in eye, fluffy kittens getting stood on
and so forth.
Nice shots though
