Looks like the Gold crew were out to play today.

Car looks great and launched well according to the pics.

The 5 must be very close now, is the pony tail still on ?

Got there before me, saw the pics on ED and wondered the same. Peak performance days are good to go to as for whatever reason not many turn up to watch. Lets hope the weather holds. Come on, somebody must have been there.

Derek ran a 5.835@203, he shut off just after half track, the 1/8 mile speed was 207!!

It does actually say on eurodragster, if you hover over the launch pic on saturdays photos smile

He says hes lowered the bump spot on his pony tail to 5.5!! with a bit of luck it will be gone by the end of the finals!

That's what you get for not putting your moise pointer over the thumbnail picture biggrin

Didn't see Derek's first run, 6.018, as I was strapped in and waiting to run myself but the second run was at twilight and was awesome. Immediately before the run the American guys with Derek were dubious about the track, but I guess they haven't heard about SPR's legendary track crew. Bunny ears of course and shut off well early so there's plenty more to come yet.

Edit: Derek's incrementals were:

60 feet: 1.016
330 feet: 2.577
Eighth: 3.775/207.86
990 feet: 4.780
Quarter: 5.835/204.23

Also of note yesterday was Danny Cockerill's 6.633, shut off at 4.5 seconds. A few new cars or new owners too. The relevant pics on our gallery have pop-up captions if you mouse-over the thumbnail.

I saw the first pass on Saturday, the 6.08 and it looked like Derek and the team had been with the Nitro route for years!

All looked totally smooth, Derek waiting a second or so to hit the gas but when that thing left it looked pretty effortless and I really enjoyed the late afternoon header flames and nitro whiff! Derek lifted by where i was sitting (7-800ft or so) and the crowd went mental when the time came up.

Derek is going to be a major player next week i think!

Well done to Dave Bailey with his 7.2 aswell, that thing looked good!

Tog what times did you run? I only saw Grumpy go once as i kept wandering to the Autojumble.

Thanks for asking. My best run was 10.92/122 with a big stop beneath the pedal and a lower chip replacing the usual incumbent. This is against PBs of 9.79/138. Had fun though and won both of the races time trials I had, the second against Dave Day although to be fair he creamed me off the line and I think he was planning to back off early anyway. It was an interesting experience seeing Dave appear to come back towards me in the second half; I was sitting there glancing back and forth at the roadster and the finish line trying to work out whether I would get there first as the Dodge got on the chip and the acceleration came off. Managed it by 0.4 seconds smile

Nice one, I did notice both the PMR cars seemed to be on the chip quite a bit in the burnout and at the top end.

Did Dave make a full pull? I only saw half passes from him all day. Then again i only stayed till about 4 due to other plans.

Yes when it was on the 5600 chip Grumpy was stopping dead at half track, well not literally but you know what I mean. Poor old girl, I know she wanted to go faster and lead me astray biggrin But the car's not just there for my benefit so we had to be sensible smile

What was a bit disconcerting was the first time I travelled over the tyre marks from Teresa Letchford's car in the shutdown area. When I mentioned it to Mick Howling after the run he said "At least you knew not to follow them".

Sounds like you could be a potential Pro E/T racer to me Tog with that top end account.

I love the heart in mouth feeling at the top end in competition, trying to keep your focus and just stay in front of your opponent, real cat and mouse stuff at times.
