They are just awful, but you have to make a show of doing them. Just wait for the one with the A0 sized photos of ugly, fat hairy people (male and female) in the birth process. yuck

I was very naive when I first fell pregnant. I thought they would cover not only labour and birth but how you look after a baby, like bath it etc. But all it covered was the labour and birth and tbh every labour only goes one way for that actual person. They can tell you all about the ideal labours where there are minimal drugs and interventions but like in my case it all went very differently. For me, the only thing that did not go wrong is I did not actually die.

So in short, I found them a waste of time and refused to go second time around.

Seems like you are made to go to them all but husband went to one and decided not to turn up for the rest! Made some friends there though! But I felt they were a waste of time!

I hear good things about the NCT classes in comparison to the NHS ones - may be worth investigating?

NCT classes are very worthwhile, the only point of attending the NHS equivalent may be a tour of the birthing unit, but that can often be arranged independently anyway.

I didn't bother with any classes. I just relied on the internet for information and advice and thought I would just see how it goes. All worked out fine though!

When my missus was pregnant with our first child, she dragged me along to these. I went to the first one and fell out with the lady presenting it so didn't bother with any more. What happened, in my case (18 years ago), was she launched into an attack on the blokes. She said "you are certain to be very jealous of the baby once it's born because your partner will be more concerned about the baby than you and your sex life will be non existent". I replied "that's complete tosh because I'll be as delighted with the new arrival as my missus." To which she spent the rest of the time saying that she knows what she's talking about and that I don't. Stupid bint!

The first one we went to, the woman running it asked us; what, on a new born, is the size of a walnut? After a pause, one of the women there said, loudly, "it's ball-bag?". The answer, it seemed, is it's stomach.

Cue us all in stitches.

She's now a good friend of ours. thumbup
