Rear Number Plate

Have seen a couple of cars with a smaller rear plate put on the rear clam just below the mesh where it usually goes. Am thinking of moving mine for better air flow through the intercooler. Just wondering if anyone had done it here and if it causes much problems with the boys in blue?

Also am still after a centre nut or just the plastic dish!

i have removed mine and replaced it with a stick on number plate - that fits on the back of the clam

not had any problems (yet)

That "thread" is not particularly helpful; If there's little info, it's difficult to reach a definitive (or any) conclusion that's supportable?
My rear mesh is currently off completely, as well as the plate. I will replace it with some alternative mesh which doesn't consist of 60+% surface area loss by material coverage.

I think the consensus of UK & US tests is that taking it off does not help with cooling.

But it does make it look better!

Taking it off does help cooling, i've logged the results and seen it in a wind tunnel, the less you restrict the air exiting the engine bay the more effective the side vents/pods are, but whatever you do no air goes in the vents behind the windows.

I'm mounting mine inside the whaletail part of the rear clam. Panelled out with GRP, internal lights, and a clear lexan cover to retain the external shape of the underside of the tail.

Have just ordered some smaller plates for mine. altho legal size letters but on 350mm x 100mm plate. think i might have to modify the front brackets tho.

there's a picture of the stick on one i had on my gto3 on my profile. moved the light down and secured to the mesh with some L brackets. although illegal never had attention from the police. not done this to the m400 yet but do take plate off on trackdays

Martin, do you have the size of that plate? I have just got a new 5 character plate and was going to mount it there, just need to give the plate maker the size, car is still being painted so cant pop out nad measure.

Alex..it's a standard plate (from fancyplates) and I just cut off the excess yellow areas
