Well, I just got back from VXR National Meet at Silverstone and quite frankly, very disappointed today with the turn out of Monaros, VXR8s, HSVs etal.

We used to get well over 30 at each meet....today has 12.... What's happened? SUrely the price of petrol can't be putting you off, after all, the ticket and car parking are free.

I will extend my thanks to those that did attend, was a nice mix of cars....

Maybe a thousand and one VXR Astra's didn't appeal?

I wanted to come and had arranged a ticket from soemone who had to cancel, but apparently had problems with the post as it was very short notice. Maybe the weather - was crap just north of you?

Probably down to the weather, I see there were 20 on the list, but after the Brands fiasco in the mud some might have thought twice? even though most of the car parks at Silverstone are hard standing now.

I see Blue is the colour for an Astra then! biggrin

The weather didn't help. Took me much longer to get there due to fog and mist on the way there from Stansted which didn't clear until a few miles before triple eight. Couldn't do much more than 50 mph but that didn't stop someone on the A505 ovetaking me at 70 mph + ... only to find a few miles up the road later he'd sudenly come across a roundabout out of nowhere and crashed straight over the top of it and completely wrecked his car, an old Ford Mondeo. Idiot! lucky no one was on the roundabout at the time! Missed breakfast at triple eight as by the time I'd arrived I was just in time to do a quick u-turn (and mini burnout) and jump in the convoy heading the other way.

Silverstone itself was ok apart from the constant rain, good to put a few more faces to the names. Same problem with the lengthy queue for the coffee machine in the VXR stand though ... Enjoyed looking at the historic btcc car display - watching the Westlake Capri, Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustangs start up was fun! Shame they only did a few parade laps was hoping they'd be gunning the cars a bit but I guess the weather put an end to that.

Silverstone didn't open up the covered stands for some time, by the time they did I was soaked, so in the end I made an early off. Hopefully better weather next time!

Paul.

Chris, glad my beauty was able to blend in so well although should have stayed with the other 'ro's laugh did not even get in the group pics.......

Best event of the year - much better than both Brands and Thruxton (although Thruxton had about 3 or 4 Monaro/VXR8's only).

Weather was not so bad to start, a litle fog all the way to 888. Breakfast was great, almost typical Aussie with a huge BBQ outside with as much as you can eat style bacon/sausage rolls - almost as good as Sophie at the Rolling Road day.

Rather too many Corsas for my liking (and driving was a little questionable) with it seems both the larger Monaro's, VX220's and Astra's starting to diminish.

Racing was superb helped by the rain - really good atmosphere in the stands (open from the first race for me).

Only downside for me was the crappy £5.50 burger (I have had better kebabs).

Top day, would have been better with a fewmore 'ro's including my own!

sorry boss must try harder in the future to attend these events, tho iv normally only been interested in going to thruxton, mainly because of the posibility of mud at some the events and the thought of being pulled out by tractor fills me with dread, but point taken none the less more effort required

Yet another good effort by Vauxhall. Still very impressed with the effort that Vauxhall put into these events, and, in view of the weather, impressed with the covered stands! Was followed out by a supercharged VXR8, and despite still loving the Monaro shape, these are growing on me. Group photo hopefully attached below (note the hard standing - no muddy car parks here!)

Forgot first time round - were there just some blue Astras there or not? Clearly blue is the fastest colour for Astras!

I agree, it was a great days racing across all classes. We were in the covered Woodcote stand looking over Brooklands and Luffield where most of the thrill and spills took place. The weather sure made for one of the best days racing I’ve seen. Plenty of overtaking and sideways action. The atmosphere in that stand was great with all showing their appreciation of the skills and thrills on display.

Thanks again to Chris (BO55 VXR) and Vauxhall for organising an entertaining day out.

Oh BTW. Not only were our cars on hard standing but it was soooooo easy to get in and out.

Perhaps all the monaros are at Rogers waiting for gearbox repairs! Certainly where mine and one others is.

Seriously though, I dont mind Astras & Corsas, but I can see why someone might.

I was there but parked in a different place. (purchased my own ticket)

The racing was good and the covered Grandstands were open when I arrived around 10.30am.

The ride to Silverstone was fun (playing with a Porsche and Fiat Turbo) and even better on the way home in the rain...... wink

Would have been there were it not for DTM at Brands. Me and my Ro plus a VXR8 represented our marque on the day. A little outnumbered by Audis and Mercs though. There's a surprise. Racing was good and loud. Audi came away winners. Wife reckons our car sounds the same as a DTM Audi on way home!

Driving conditions seem to have caught a few people out. One of the guys from VXR Performance Centre had a prang that day too. http://www.vxronline.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=...

Let's hope he has a speedy recovery.

Tickets never arrived again - Vauxhall clearly do not like mine being rebadged as a GTO as this is the third time
