Ive been meaning to look into this for a long time, and you would think I would know this as i stare at them all day long anyway. But, in 1993, was that the first year they got rid of the glass back down the rear of the Esprit? Also, is the 93 wing a diferent wing from a 92 Se? Or does it look a little different because the glass back isnt there?
There is a gorgeous White (yea baby ) 93 SE on ebay just posted..What I would do to own it

93 has no glass back, but the 88 special edition also did not have a glass back, it also had a wing. No 92 highwings were imported for the USA only 3 made it to Canada.

The wing is a little larger and more aggressive.

Why don't you buy one? You too can have one for a few easy monthly payments.

Not the highwing models, I mean what year besides 88 did they stop putting the glass back?

Sure would like to, but it isnt going to happen. Its just not feasible right now. I already have a car payment I cant get rid of, I owe $14,777 on a Jeep and they want to give me 8 grand for it, 10 at best. So im stuck with it for a long time. And plus I dont have a garage (I do but my parents leave their cars in there and they wouldnt let me have a space for my car), plus Im 22, I think its time to leave the nest and I plan on doing so in the upcoming months, so theres another payment. The list goes on and on. If I didnt have this truck, I would definately buy one. But then again, im quitting IBM and I dont have another job lined up. Im just in between life right now.

That would be the 93 model year.

A lot of us have gone the other way from you.

I have several cars but the daily drivers are fairly old inexpensive cars. Under 8K for both daily drivers. One of them is is under 3K (the one I drive the most) but still in decent shape and runs well. That way it is possible to get a nicer fun car.

When I get an Esprit, I plan on doing the same thing: Buying a 3,000 dollar 1995 Camry or something, last forever and use it as my everyday car.

I'm the same age. I just got an 88 Esprit, already thinking of moving up to a V8 car. I was driving a Viper for about a year or so (and boy do I miss her). Tons of high hp cars, most ever was around 800rwhp. Have fun in life, just do not over extend yourself. The key to anything is budget and record keeping.

Drive what ever you buy often. My office is about 10 minutes from me, so I always blast down the highway in the morning, hit a few twistes at 70 and then brake hard into the parking lot over the hill. Damn good fun at 8am I am a firm beleiver that driving a car a good bit and how it was ment to be driven keeps the gremlins at bay.

Thanks for the information, you couldnt be more right. I have recently learned that I can pretty much do anything with proper money management. I know that I will get my first Esprit in 2 years or under, I just cant wait!
So you had a Viper before the Esprit eh. What made youu go with an 88 Esprit first? I suppose you had the Rt/10. My cousin is a nut over Vipers like I am for a Lotus. Any pics of the Viper? I love those cars. They are being sold in the same price range of an Esprit on ebay. I mean you can pick a 98 Rt/10 for around the same as S4S.

Hey do me this favor, i always liek to hear the comparisons of an owner who owns(ed) an Esprit and a Viper at one time. I got alot of guys saying the Lotus was un believable fun to drive, but the Viper had so much balls. How would you compare them in reliability or maintenance factor?

Im rambling now.

I just took my friend for a ride in my Lotus and he owns a Viper. He was very impressed with it but also said he likes the grunt of his Viper better. My impression of the Viper is it is stupid fast, handles great and looks hot. I am not a fan of the interior though. Being a huge Lotus fan, I'd choose the Esprit over the Viper still, but that is me.

If balls is what you want, but still want your Lotus, make your beater a modified one. That is what I did. My track car became my daily driver when I got the Lotus.

Yeah the Viper is one nasty car! But you cant beat the prestige of a Lotus, or the gawk factor.

Im a Mustang 5.0 guy, had 3 of them since I was 17. So you know I like the grunt.

Hey Rich, I emailed you back, I dont know if you got it. I am going to call you today about the Lotus "Get Acquainted" meet this saturday

Hi,

Which great handling Viper would that be..?? I have driven two Vipers and they both handled like sh*t, and I don't mean compared to an Esprit, more like when compared to a Buick! It's true, stomp on the Loud Pedal and they go like stink, but come into a turn and get a true sense of your own Mortality!

I grant you thay are ourageous, and the biggest Punch in the Nose Chrysler's come up with in 30 years, but I really wouldn't include great handling amongst their many virtues, braking either for that mattter. Just one old Test Pilot's opinion. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Jim, which Viper have you driven? Rt/10, GTS, a limited model, the new SRt/10?

Jim,

Jack (the new guy)has both a Viper and 2000 Esprit. I don't know if the new ones are any different from the old ones. Never drove a new one.

Jack did mention it was more of a point and shoot device than a smooth around the corner like the Esprit. Different type of driving that's for sure.

For point and shoot it has to have good brakes to go in fast, brake hard, then accelerate for a fast exit. So if the new ones do not have very good brakes they should be upgraded.

Jack's son did come in ahead of him during fox and hounds with the EVO. I am impressed with the EVO. The EVO did a fair job of keeping up with me except in a few sections. But then again Aaron did pull away from me in the tighter 2nd gear sections only to be caught up in the 3rd gear sections. I think he drove his car very hard to keep ahead, that bottom out he had that day surely contributed to the A arm failure at the following event a few weeks later resulting in the total loss of his car.

Jack is a member of my local Lotus club. He does not belong to the list or forum. This guy has maybe a dozen cars or more ranging from old Mustang muscle cars to the Viper/Esprit type cars all in pristine shape. He traded a Countach for the V8 Esprit. I think his daily driver is an M3. I have only seen the cars he has here up north and I think he has a totally different set up in FL near the Naples area. He likes to drive and he likes cars. He is not as passionate about Lotus as most are and he has had some shift linkage issues that should not have occured in a new car when he bought the 2000.

I can ask him via email to have chat with you, just email you address and I will forward it to him and see if he wants to email you about the cars.

I just emailed you Calvin. By the way, I just got through checking out your site, do you have any more pics of your Esprit. That is one sharp looking SE, especially with the tints and chrome wheels.

Any night photos?

I'll forward your email address to Jack.

Thanks, the car has behaved well for me. Still looking for an upgrade, don't know when that will happen though.

I have a few more pictures time to upgrade the web page, have not done so in a while.

Hi...

I drove 2 Rt/10's (early 90's), granted I didn't have any track time or any challenging road time in either, but on the few twistys we did encounter, I felt the car was unbalanced, nose heavy w/ tons of understeer.

Also, the rearend gives no feedback at all until it just breaks loose. These were both stock cars, so upgrades may make a world of difference.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Viper alot, may own one someday, I just wouldn't call it an especially well handling car. Happy Motoring! Jim'85TE

Jim, my fiend has a 2001 Viper. To me, it handled great. Did my Lotus handle better? I'd say so because the Lotus was easier to drive, giving much more feedback allowing a much nicer experience IMHO. I never felt uneasy in the Viper, but the back tires give no feedback like you said. They just break loose. As a whole it was a fast and nice handling car that looks great. I have never been in another Viper other than that, but with that 15 minute ride, I was impressed with the car. Like I said before, I would still take a Lotus over it if given the choice.
