Driver flees the scene after his £84,000 BMW kills couple
Last updated at 1:12 AM on 31st August 2008
A driver ran off leaving a man and a woman dead on the pavement after hitting them in his top-of-the-range £84,000 BMW yesterday.
The victims – a man aged 47 and a woman aged 21 – were walking home after a night out when they were struck by the car, which also hit a parked Mercedes.Minicab driver Nasim Kayani, 46, and his 21-year-old female passenger were unloading the car when a BMW M6 careered into them. They were pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of Saturday.
Witnesses saw the driver get out of his 155mph black BMW M6, look at the couple lying on the pavement and then run away from the scene, in Perivale, West London.
Cynthia Goddard, whose front wall collapsed after the car – with a personalised number plate – smashed into it, described how she was woken at 1.30am by a noise which sounded like ‘a bomb going off’.

She said: ‘It made me jump, and I ran over to my bedroom window to have a look.
‘I saw the driver, he was standing on the passenger side of the car.
‘He looked shocked and then looked at me.
‘As soon as he made eye contact with me he ran away so fast.
‘I decided to go outside to investigate because from my window I couldn’t see anything else but the car.
‘When I walked around the other side of the car I saw the two bodies lying there.
‘They both looked as if they were dead. I just kept looking at the young girl – her eyes were closed and she was very pale. I still can’t get that image out of my head.
‘The man was lying close to her and he also looked dead.
‘I think I was in so much shock that I stood there and didn’t know what to do. By this time the paramedics and a nurse had arrived and I could hear the nurse saying, “she’s not breathing, she’s not breathing”.
‘They were desperately trying to resuscitate them but it was no use, I could see they were dead.
‘I just cannot believe how the driver could have just run off.
‘He must have seen those bodies, how could he have not?
‘I wish I’d never witnessed it. I just cannot get the image of the two lying there on the footpath out of my head.’
Police said last night they were trying to trace the victims’ families and a post-mortem examination would be held.
It was unclear whether the couple were connected.
Officers also took away the BMW and Mercedes for forensic analysis.
Last night Scotland Yard said a 23-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was being held in custody at a West London police station.
He was also breath-tested but police refused to discuss the results.
A spokesman added that the Mercedes was empty at the time of the crash. ‘We urge anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch with us.’

Sad story, but I disapprove of some of the 'buzz words' that they seem to have deliberately included.
"top-of-the-range"
"£84,000
"155mph"
"with a personalised number plate"
It's almost as if you're supposed to hate the car and what it stands for more than the 'tard who crashed it.

Car driven by pr1ck kills someone would suffice, but oh no.
It has to be "sports car with prviate plate which can go fast and which you'll never own" kills someone.
W'nk journalism, and part of a creeping and subliminal campaign to ban the sportscar.
"200 mph Porsche kills couple" sells more papers than "Prius Hybrid car kills couple."
Dreadful they're dead, but a pr1ck is a pr1ck whether he's driving an M6 or a Panda.

That story reminds me of the Terry Pratchett book "The Truth" where one of the lead character bangs on about including pointless details in the news to get the 'human interest' in. As already said - what exactly has the type of car got to do with it other than a thinly veiled attempt to make people dislike a particular type of car and/or car owner?
The standard of journalism goes from bad to worse in this country.
The type of car, it's top speed and price are utterly irrelevant to this story other than as a vehicle (sic) for the journo's own prejudices.
It is sad that someone died in a hit and run and the owner if they are the one that caused this accident should be taken out and birched, but their choice of vehicle isn't one of the reasons why.
