Can anyone tell me if temporary staff have any legal rights about this? My son is temping for a large company and has found they will not pay for Bank Holidays

From what I can remember, there is no legal 'right' to be given paid bank holidays in full time employment, let alone temp work. I believe it depends upon your contract...

Standard practice, you get paid for the hours you work and that's it.

Of course they don't.

Did he not read his contract before he signed it?

You get paid for the hours you work. Simple.

Why doesn't he get a permanent job if he wants paid leave?

If he works for an agency, then he can acrew holiday points.
My Wife has been doing agency work (employment agency (Temping)) for the last 18 months and she has had paid holidays.

I believe there was some legeslation that entitles even temps to holiday pay.

Temps get a certian amount of money per hour/day they work that they put towards holiday pay on top of their normal wages.

Any decent temping agency will give you a running total - however you may be asked to take holiday after a while if you have too much money saved up though as its a legal requirement to take the holiday.

My agency give me the equilivant of 20 days a year

Yes you are now legally entitled to holiday pay, but not to bank holidays. They can quite legitimately ask you to take bank holidays out of your annual leave allowance.

Yep.

The same rights as full time permanent staff in terms of holidays now as I understand it.
