"I Love You". Well, ok, no I dont. In fact I think some of you smell a bit funny, and some are horrendously ugly ;-) But in all seriousness, I was thinking, just WHEN during a relationship is it ok to say this to your other half? I mean, I am in a relationship with someone very special to me, and I've never had the feelings I have for her like I have had for anyone else. However, I feel it's a bit soon to be saying I love you, but as soon as it is viewed to be OK, I want to say it, because I'm sure I do, I just think she might be like 'yeh, whatever', if I say it now. Any ideas?

If you feel it, say it, but you'd better be ready for a serious relationship, because many women believe that the next step is a proposal.

Saying "I love you" is expressing a real commitment to the girl. You are prepared for the relationship to be long term and you consider her well being more important to you than your own. Examine your feelings. Would you die for her if necessary? If so you love her and should tell her. If not? You like her a lot. And need to wait to see...

It is usually a few years before you tell them they are ugly.

I find it is around the wearing pyjamas, hair tied up with no makeup stage.

Do it in an indirect way.

I told Mrs V that I loved her in the car on the way to work.

I think we were talking about someone who had been disabled by a car crash, and I said "I would still love you even if that happened to you."

It just sort of came out and wasn't all Mills & Boon.

Asking others for advice may just serve to confuse you more, I fear.

The only time right is the one which you decide is right.

At the moment it seems clear that you are reading into her behaviour that she might disregard/ not reciprocate your love love lovey love words. So it would seem clear that you have significant doubts about it.

You are right in thinking there is also something to do with knowing when the other person is ready to hear the words. I think that is the factor you appear to be trying to suss. The only anwser really is your intuition.

And of course proximity to oral oboe recital. If ithe statement clinches the swallow, arguably, you are spot on.

Hahaha! That be a bit harsh!

In reply to the other questions, yes, I put her before me. Yes, I want a long term relationship. The thing that's making me hold back is that she said she's not got a good track record with relationships, and is therefore wanting to make sure she doesn't mess this one up. I fear if I got charging in with 'I love you', she'll get cold feet and won't be interested.

Talk to her and tell her how you feel about her, just real casual like smile. Stay away from the "L" word though, it's vague and should only be used when she has no question as to what it means. It's better to be more desciptive.

Then get her a glass pony with wings as a token of your affection for her hehe.
