Whats happened to his career?
Provide down the pan, limited tested, DTM on the back burner, Hamilton the new Brit hope.
I thought he would have been in F1 by now but has he passed his chances or lack of? Dont see his name popping up anymore.
Is America his only hope?

he is a top line driver IMHO...

IIRC Norbert H thinks the moon shines out of his rear (the sun shining out of LH's).

good driver, yes, but give everyone else a run for there money?? thats very very debatable...that said though it would have been nice to see him have a pop at f1, but im sure he is earning an ok wage in dtm.

Gary Paffett in F1, hes average at best, current crop of F1 drivers he would get destroyed.belleair302 said:

isnt he now managed by Brundle?.......if so thats not a bad manager?.....or am I worng? as I think he used to be managed by Hines Snr........I bumped into Paffet while on a flight to stuttgart last year, he was flying out with DiResta for the local DTM round, I asked him "so do you think you will be on the grid in 08" and he said something like well it all depends on the rules and money, but david is doing his best to put it all together, which is obviously the way it turned out......lousy rules prevented any furter play.......but speaking generally he is currently a Macca test driver and on the days that he needs to shine, in my honest opinion I have not yet seen him set any tracks on fire, yes he seems fast, but not fast enough, I dont think he is raising any team managers eyebrows with his F1 pace........not like Kubica or Davidson did in their test days many years back, they had the pit lane foaming at the mouth.i don't think he'll ever get a race drive in F1. if any of the mclaren guys can't make a race, i'd expect they put PedlaR in there instead?
the fact is he is well known - if he was good enough he would have got a drive. kubica didn't exactly come with a lot of financial backing, or from a young driver development programme like the red bull guys (unless he had something with renault which i don't think he did)

I drove with Gary in the Young Guns team and he is an extremely talented driver who deserves a place on the F1 grid. The problem appears to have been that he has been promised drives that then fail to materialise or the team changes its strategy regarding youth vs experience at the last moment. This is coupled with a loyalty to Mercedes / McLaren in a similar way to the way that Lewis has been taken under their wing - although to nowhere near the same extent.
He was in line for the Jaguar F1 drive, lost out to Villeneuve for the Sauber drive and then rule changes buggered up any hope of the Prodrive deal engineered by McLaren & David Richards for Gary.
Each time the test role at mcLaren plus a race drive in either DTM or F3000 was the fall back. The year he was put in the latest machinery in DTM he missed the title due to an exclusion at one round (not sure if it was techinical of driver error) and won the title the next year. His F3000 team went tits up and since then he has been in and out of DTM in year or 2 year old machinery and is still competitive.
All in all a very quick and capable driver but must be one of the unluckiest and I agree could do with a couple of big sponsors to bring along to ease the deal.
