Im thinking of replacing my 8GB Gen 1 iPhone with a Samsung Omnia i900. Does anyone have any experience of these? I have had samsung phones in the past and was pretty happy with them, is the Omnia worth getting?

I should have said i use the phone mainly for calling, texting, as an MP3 player and browsing the web. Occasionally use the camera.
Downside of my iphone is that the battery is awful otherwise would happily keep it.
If i get the Omnia i will just be upgrading on Orange, and not interested in moving away from orange.

I upgraded to the omnia, didnt like it at all. I can see why its been given great reviews, but is way over the top for what i wanted. (pretty much the same uses as you) Found the windows 6.1 software quite fiddly too. Ended up selling on Ebay for £400 and just gonna get a Tocco instead as have used one and prefer the looks and ease of use.

I have one of those Samsung touch-screen, slide out keyboard pieces of junk that I got in March.

Never
Ever
Again

will I get a Samsung phone (or a Motorola after the Razr junk that I had)

Only Nokia or Sony for me on the next contract

I recently got one of these and it takes a lot of getting used to. I am still undecided to be honest.
There are a stack of features and i'm sure once i learn how to use it it's goign to be great but my list of complaints are:

Can't get the damn GPS to work
Operating system is very fiddly
Touch screen does not seen to accurate but that could be me.
Texting is not as easy as the keyboard interface on the itouch

Was in two minds whether to change it for an iPhone but i'm goign to give it some time.

What is the touchscreen like compared to the iPhone. How good is the wifi and browsing the web.

Assuming the iPhone is similar to the itouch in terms of touch screen use the itouch wins hands down. Scrolling through menus is a joy where the omnia is very clunky and just does not work. When you flip the screen by turning the omnia on it's side it hesitates is slow.

Wifi on the omnia is good, not used it too much but it picks up networks and seems very fast. I jump between Opera and IE, both work well.

There is just something about the itouch screen and general usage just works.

If you are into messing about with 3rd party applications and configuring everything just right get an Omnia, if you want satisfaction straight out of the box stick with the apple

Forgot to add, getting email and things was easy to setup and works well but replying to an age to type so texting will annoy you.
