ok, can someone explain why he should lose his driving licence?

He was on a skateboard (which presumably doesn't require a licence).
If you commit an offence on a pushbike, you don't lose your car licence (do you?)
After all - you might not have one and it isn't relevant!

Or is this just crappy tabloid journalism at it's usual low standard?

You can't loose your driving licence in this country, on a push bike.
The article referes to Germany, so the rules may be different.

There is a chap around there who commutes to work on skateboard. He regularly beats the traffic going down hill in the morning and its quite funny. Bloody loud though, easy to forget how loud they can be.

Bring it on for what I say - talk about environmentally friendly....

Regardless of the country, I don't see the justification of removing ones driving license.

I think the police would be more interested in the fact he was using a skateboard on a motorway. I can see why they are pissed off.

didn't you know? According to local councils - skateboarders are the spawn of satan, should have their own version of the congestion charge and are responsible for the hole in the ozone layer.

fair enough - and he should be fined or whatever - my point is that he shouldn't have his driving licence taken off him for it!

Driving license. By my definition is a permit allowing one to drive or ride a motorised vehicle. I'm not sure a skateboard can defined as such.

Didn't that chap have his driving license revoked for standing by the side of the road with a speed camera warning sign? I think now your driving license is considered an asset that they can use to penalise you if they see fit, and not just for driving offenses.

Is true.

Edit: and to save Eric Mc the trouble; it's 'licence' unless you're a septic.

A while ago, someone put up a sign saying there was a mobile scamera a few hundred yards further down the road. The police arrested him and the judge banned him from driving. What - The - fk.

I sometimes listen to music that's faster than pop music. I guess I should have my licence revoked for speeding, too.

Shirley they should just scour the local 'Akzident unt Imergenzee' for a chap with a broken collar bone and bits of tarmac under his scalp?

In the real world its rare that you see someone stay on a feckin' skateboard for more than 5 seconds before falling off and trying to look cool and matter of fact about it.

Correct Pete yes

I was reading about something similar the other day and it said the penalty for such an offence (some type of fraud IIRC) was punishable by revoking driver license and fine or community service.

Absurd!

Full marks to the chap, downhill skateboarders are loonies anyway, but over 60mph? That's fooking bonkers that is.
