For financial reasons fluffys been off the road for 6 months. Situation has changed now so I'm looking to start her for the first time in 6 months this weekend. Any things I should check/do before I start the engine (other than the obvious i.e. water, oil and battery) ?
Cheers
Pete

I would say ideally, plugs out, some oil down the bores, and just get it turning over on the starter without firing to get some oil circulalted around the engine. At the very worst (laziest smile) remove the plug leads so you can turn it over without it firing.

As already mentioned, I find the best thing to do is remove all the spark plugs...(After making some sort of numbering system for the plug lead identification)...Turn the engine over untill oil pressure is noted + Then some more churning to cover the cams....Once your convinced the oil pressure has got to the engines top.....Replace all the plugs and fire her up....I do this with all my cars that have been stood....Please note ;- If you intend to lay any car up for a period....Do an oil change before you lay the car up...Even if its just a cheap oil,As,This ensures the engine`s not sat in oil that is saturated with harmful acids...As,These eat away at the lead indium on the bearing surfaces....I just put in good quality oil before i put the car back on the road...Its also worth a mention....I start the engines around every month and bring the engine temp up till the fans strike in...To stop a build up of water/condensation...
Just a thought.....Kev.
