Over time I've changed my mind about what I'd call my kids when I have them. They've gone from the naive to off-the-wall to sentimental to honouring and of course my partner will, in the end, have a say too.

So to those who have had, are having or will be having kiddiwinks, what name have / will you give them and why?

At the moment, I'm in family mode so I'd name my son William (but call him Bill) after my dad who has sadly passed on. Haven't really settled on a name for a daughter yet.

Hmm. I think our 'pre birth' joke name might stick! His middle names will likely be his two grandfathers' names.

No idea what we'd do for a girl.

Edit- 'cos "there's no f in grandfather". At least, there wasn't.

First son : Ethan, named after a character in a book I read as a kid and always liked it.

Second son : name chosen as the girlfriend liked them both - as a petrolhead I didn't argue at the middle name of "Morgan".

Could never, ever name a child after a relative.

Kid #1 (Rosie) was given a random name we both liked to avoid any family huffs.

Kid #2 (John aka JJ) has the same name as me. Wife's idea, not mine, I thought it was daft. Once used to it it's ok.

You miss an important option in your poll - saints.

Catholics are supposed to call their kids after saints.

Like Saint Rodney.

Actually, I named Rod junior after my cat, Rodney.

Short version: We named ours after a potato.

Slightly longer version: We were expecting a girl, and had the name all picked out using a combination of our Nans names. When it popped out it was a boy and although I was keen to continue with what we had, the missus thought a boy named Daisy might get the piss ripped out a bit.

3 weeks later still had no name, so were using the temporary name it'd been given whilst still inside - "spud". Midwife suggested Spud=potato=King Edward, weren't particularly keen on Edward, but it was better than Maris Piper, Desiree, or Cara. Plus the King Edward is a good all-round potato.

So we shortened it to Ed.

I have 2 names. I have my given name which is Stacey Ann, which comes from my dad, Stephen, and my Mam, Tracey and then my Nan's name Ann. But the name on my Christening certificate is Anastacia, which is a name my parents loved but didn't want to lumber me with a "complicated" name.

First son (Freddie) is named after his maternal great grandfather (Alf) - who acted as father to my wife in absentia of her real dad. Sadly he died a couple of months ago but at least got to know his namesake - in fact, he spent the afternoon with him only a couple of hours before he died.

My first born is named Emma, as a nod of appreciation to the great Emma Peel of the Avengers.

I'm not sure how I will feel should she turn out like her namesake....

Our son is called Oliver.

We were going to call him Ben until his grandmother started toasting "Benji" when he was born, so we changed our mids just before he was registered to make her look like a muppet in-front of her Hyacinth Bucket-esque friends (we actually prefered Oliver anyway).

Silly, miserable old sow barely talks to us now because of that hehe

We called our first born daughter 'Kaydiey Lee' because we hate her

Our first son was called 'Jayden' because we see him growing up to be a career criminal.

The next 8 or 9 kids to join our brood we will choose from- Ashton, Madison, Ashley, Chayse, Conor, Connor, Curtis, Damon, Declan, Dillon/Dylan, Dwayne, Grant, Jordan, Josh Kade, Kane, Kieron, Kyle, Liam, Mason, Mitchell, Myles, Painton, Rhys / Reece, Ryan, Troy, Tyler.

Samuel John David

Other half chose Sam, and as it had been an "interesting" birth, she had first choice. David after our scrum half who passed away a couple of years ago aged 25. John after my other half's Father who passed away a few years ago.

I chose my daughters first name and the wife chose her middle name, Sienna Robyn

I'm not sure why i chose it, i thought we where having a boy, so i was all set to name it Charles after my life long friend and ex house master, but i was caught off guard when i found out it was a girl, after looking and becoming more and more worried i eventually settled on the name.

I could have called her Terry-Jade or something equally as horrific laugh
