The wife has just phoned saying that her Ka has failed it's MOT. Its an 04 plate with 35k miles.

It's failed on the following:

Disks and pads £150
Rear suspension mounts £176
Front suspension arms £175

Plus tyres, wipers etc.

Apparently these are dangerous and common faults with Ka's but the car is only 4 years old.

Has anyone else had similar MOT failures?

Thanks

Discs and pads can affect any car.
The other bits are common to them I believe, do the prices include labour? even if they do it seems a tad dear.

Disks and pads weren't too much of a shock-the brakes on Ka's are awful at the best of times. The other failures are worrying.

The prices include VAT and labour.

Sounds reasonable then I suppose depending on the garage. I expect the arms are just the bushes gone but it's probably a bit OTT to say they're dangerous, what's actually gone on the rear mounts?

Main dealer prices?

That disk and pad cost is higher than I was quoted by ford for ST170 discs and pads.

The whole package should be cheaper elsewhere IMO.

Wasn't a main dealer. It was the local B.E.T.S place. She's getting a detailed invoice this afternoon that I can't wait to read.

I know that a set of front discs and pads can be had for a current fiesta for less than £60 retail so they are making a killing on those.

rear suspension mounts will be the top mounts.
fiteen minutes a side to change literally.
rear bushes on the front arms will be shagged, but it all sounds way too dear.
For what its worth I get rear top mounts for about £8 each.

Ouch! I would be looking to get those done for about half that to be honest - and that's without cutting any corners.

Ka's are notorious for failing really badly. I'm not surprised it'll cost you a fortune to keep it on the road.

I've got a mechanic mate who said that he rubs his hands in glee when a Ka arrives for an MOT.

I've had a Ka and a SportKa - the Ka had two MOT's when I owned it, and had 76k on the clock and never failed an MOT. The Sport was done yesterday, and needed wiper blades and the lights re-aligning.

How did you get on with yours?
