Jerry Reed RIP

[audidoody]

Died yesterday aged 71 of emphysema. Most of you probably know him as Burt Reynolds' sidekick in Smoky and the Bandit. To me he was one of the best guitar pickers in the business as well as a nifty songwriter (just ask Elvis).

RIP

My all time favorite film. Im genuinly(sp) gutted by the news. His greatest hits album was great, and thats comming from a 26 year old.

East Bound and Down as well as its West bound counterpart as an essential part of my music collection. I will play it many times as a tribute on this years staples2naples run in a couple of week.

sniff sniff

Agreed, one of mine too and one I can watch again and again and not get bored of it.

I also have his Greatest Hits, and I'm 30. Excellent country guitarist, I'll have Amos Moses on in the car tonight. Must have been an influence on Southern Rock artists such as Skynyrd, Allmans and Molly Hatchet.

I think i can honestly say that Smokey and the Bandit along with the Cannonball Run films made me the petrolhead i am today. I must if been only 5 or 6 when i first heard that black trans am or the red/white/black lambo at max chat.

Thanks Hal Needham and RIP the Snowman

EDIT - Nuts to it. Its probably the Oktoberfestbier flowing through my veins but im going to treat East Munich to some classic Jerry.

Lets hope the Jerry's like Jerry.

Sad to say that iv had various clips from both films on my phone for years.

"Does this thing move?"

" Oh yeah"

[insert 5.7 fire-am sideways launch.]

sorry, forgot to quote properly

"Car 42, you've been in pursuit for two hours. Another five minutes and you'll be in Arizona"

Ahem, that would be Cannonball Run, not Smokey and the Bandit

And we'll stay in pusuit until we catch him...

It didn't take this long to catch Dillinger...

(I know it's from Cannonball)

Shame about Jerry Reed - we're learning East Bound and Down with my band at the moment and the solo's really something - still can't find a decent tab of it so trying to transcribe it by ear...

nice cover by these guys

Punk cover band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes did a cover of East Bound and Down, the movie's theme song, on their 2006 album Love Their Country.
