Hi, I have a misfire at about 4k revs when under load. I (And Austec) suspect a coilpack is dodgy.

How can I determine which one it is?

Thanks

Andy.

If one is breaking down, why not replace both of them, as the other probably isn't far behind.

You need to find out which cylinder is misfiring only then can you know which pack to replace.

Easiest way is to pull off each lead(one at a time and listen to the engine note)....this is not that easy on the cerb. Or its to have the HT scoped to find the failure....

But by the time you have payed someone to do this you would have bought both packs...

They are common, but also the HT leads are too due to routing and heat.

Yep, it's only a Citroen part and should be sub £30 so might as well do both yes

Have to agree, for the agro of getting to them I'd change them both, do the Alternator belt and maybe do teh plug leads as well. laugh

Replace one, if that doesn't fix then replace the other and keep the first one as a spare.

If you replace both together then you won't know which one was duff so you end up throwing away a perfectly good coil pack.

Its especially difficult when the engine is doing around 4,000 rpm, under load, as I said.

Under load, as in 'zooming along the road' !

Its not not working completely, that would be easy to locate, just misfiring sometimes. Big explosions, sometimes big enough to make the engine stop!

Don't you have to remove the front one to get the back one out?

(its a 4.5 with Whirlwind).
