Sorry if this is a repeat question but I couldn't find the answer when searching....

As the title alludes to, I test drove a 2005(05) A3 2.0T FSI with the DSG box today (13000 miles and FASH).

It was a really nice car but I couldn't help noticing when changing up (in auto mode) that the engine emitted a fairly noticeable booming noise while the gear was changing. Is this normal or is it likely the gearbox has seen better days?

Thanks
Rick

Edited to say.... only happens when nailing it and the sound is a split second in length. My suspicion was at the time that the noise may be related to the clutches disengaging and the ECU was somehow limiting the engine from revving too high for that split second

They do make a kind of booming 'phut' as they change but it shouldn't be too bad ... more a nice characterstic smile
