Serious question here -

Does anyone/Do you know the difference between a Driving Licence that was valid before 01/01/1997 and one that was valid afterwards and up to the present day?

(The difference is in what you are entitled to drive)

Some people, especially the younger ones amongst us, are causing themselves a lot of trouble by not knowing.

Isn't it towing, Tony? I know I am entitled to tow a caravan, trailer or horse-box but I understood that for new test passes they are not - and must pass an additional test to be allowed to?

Chap I know specialises in doing towing training for the youngsters...

One point at least is that you cannot drive a 7.5tonne truck (HGV3) on a licence after 97 IIRC.

Not sure on the others....

Interestingly you have to take a moped driving course (not full CBT) to drive one if you passed your car licence since 2001...

I thought they were for getting off your face when you go clubbing.

Or do you mean you have to drop an E if you want to tow?

Is that what the Caravan Club means by "Happy Towing"?

Think I'll stick to a smoke: you tow very slowly and when you get the munchies you can nip into the caravan for tea and cakes.

Must lie down now.

certainly know that us oldies can drive a 7.5 tonner

think the oldies get to drive tractors, muck spreaders, combine harvesters etc too

I'd have to get the licence out to read what I can drive...but I also know I can ride motorbikes

Haven't got a fork lift truck licence though.
