Compressed marathon training
Discussion
I have just over a week to go before a marathon. The furthest I have run is 10 miles, last Tuesday. A week is not much time to prepare, but it is still time to do something...I hope.
My contigency plan at the moment is to unleash the Rocky Theme tune on my Ipod shuffle if I start to flag.
Any other tips ?

I have done 2 marathons on Concept 2 rowers, the first one was after about 4 hours sleep, a night on the sauce and a hangover, I did it in 3 hours 26minutes.
The motivation was the lay dressed up like a sluttly Mrs Clause. I did not want to look foolish.
So, the best way to train would be to find a slutty miss Clause who is willing to run 10 metres ahead of you.
I find Disco music keeps my pace up.
Dave!

I've heard of some people doing the marathon with little or no preperation, depends on how fit you are I guess? I know it's not good for your body though - which is why you're not supposed to run the full distance before the actual event. I guess if you can do ten and you're not going for a WR then you should be ok, you can always just cruise around at a pace where you're totally comfortable rather than at a race pace.
Just enjoy it if you can!

Your best chance is to fake an injury the night before the run I reckon. There's a whole lot of difference between 10 miles and 26...by now you should really have a couple of 20 milers under your belt at least.
Honestly...do as much as you can this weekend and then possibly some very light training early next week, then rest for a few days before the marathon itself. You're not going to make any real gains in fitness in such a short time so your best bet is to make sure you're as fresh as possible on the day itself.

I ran a marathon in just over 4.5 hours with little or no training other than the 5/6 milers I do weekly.
I say ran, I did a bit of walking as well when it got too much and just made sure I could do the last bit at a fairly decent pace and overtake a few saps.
I reckon the main thing is to take in easily assimilated energy sources throughout the course so you don't reach any real lows.

You have not done anyway near enough training. It's going to hurt like hell, really. A lot. Chances are you'll get cramp at some point and will feel like hell for the last 10 miles. You'll not be able to walk down stairs forwards for at least 3 days afterwards.
If you still insist on doing it then start slow and stay slow. No faster than 10 minute mile pace and you might make it round. Don't bother training this week, it's pointless.
Crack on son.

I ran this past a friend who suggested :
I would "accidentally" go left at the half-marathon point, cross the line and wander about confused pretending to be foreign. Dutch McClaren would be a good choice - "for sure, like where is the final half of this jogging party? I make the good time?"

Easy peasy. You ran ten miles last Tuesday. So do the same thing on marathon day. Then do it again. Then do another 6 and a bit miles. What's your problem? My contigency plan at the moment is to unleash the Rocky Theme tune on my Ipod shuffle if I start to flag.
Any other tips ?
