they come up on here and SELOC classifieds from time to time....there can only be 200-300 in the country so pretty rare I guess

expect to pay the price of the base car + at least 50% of the original conversion cost.

The coolant does look low, but with a full engine conversion and the original tank it more that likely would settle at a different level.

the coolant lower and upper levels are different on a Honda converted car...its not like the K ...if you put enough in to the upper level as per the old Rover K, then it would be coming out of the top when it got warm with the Honda wink

It sounds like the engine work has been extensive, and I'd want to know that it's covered by some kind of warranty to pay that price.

I'd also want to know what brakes it has and what suspension it has, because to get the best from the car, you'll want powerful brakes and good non-standard suspension.

For reference I sold mine for £22k back in Feb - it had higher miles, but had the lot done, a hardtop and 2 sets of wheels.

Ding to Tim's comments. Whilst the car has had extensive engine work, there's no information on the all important brake, suspension set up. Like Tim, I sold my converted S2, only difference being mine didn't have the Exige seats, for £21.8k. Make of that what you will.

If turbo engines your thing, there's Bernard Scouses old Audi powered S1 for 19K with all the trimmings (on SELOC). I know where my money would go if I could settle for a non-vtec'd carsmile

Its just a converted standard car it doesnt seem good value. There was supercharged ones going with all the trimmings for a few k more and a black jdm na one with ohlins for similar money.

thats good news, i've missed mine so much since i had to get rid of it, now circumstances have changed i am looking at selling my SL500 and getting back into a Lotus.

I've always hankered after a Honda'd car. is there anywhere near Bournemouth that has a demo one or one for sale so that i can test drive one?

how long are the warranties on these and how much more are the servciing costs?

cheers

Nearest installer to you is probably Brooke Kensington in Bicester.

Warranties for conversions are generally 1 year, servicing costs are less than the K-series cars because you generally only need oil changes and the odd plug change. Of course you do need to do all the other checks per the service manual so that other (Lotus) parts are properly maintained. From experience though you will tend to almost forget about servicing with these cars as they are usually regularly tracked, and as such oil is changed every 3-4 trackdays and a general checkover done to ensure any problems are nipped in the bud early. I had my Honda'd car for 18 months and never had a "service" as such, just very regular trips to Maidstone Sportscars for oil changes and this and that whenever it needed something.

I spent a bloody fortune on it, but it was generally very reliable, hugely quick, and great fun.

servicing is cheaper than a Rover K series as you dont need to change the plugs on B service - they last for 60K miles...as S Works said, generally people that own them are doing them 2x as often, but if you do stick to the 9K mile road service schedule it works out cheaper to run a Honda engine smile

Dont think I ever paid more than £100 for an A service on my car with Honda engine in it...and that was with Silkolene oil smile

All sounds very good indeed but surely there is a vital point missing with an engine upgrade like this...what about the overall balance of the car?

E.g. what about brakes, suspension, wheels/tyres and even aerodynamics?

I'm not sure I'd want 240BHP on an otherwise stock S2... now that would be scary. I would certainly want to stick to the road better and this is exactly why the exige has all the additional upgrades.

I run an older K series 111S with the PTP180 engine upgrade and although I am running larger Toyo 888's with some additional camber on the front I'm seriously considering the possibility increasing downforce with a rear wing/front splitter combo and also changing the shocks.

yes, of course, the rest of the car needs sorting out too...and most people have already done this before they start putting 240-350bhp engines in their cars ! wink

actual weight balance affected is neglible - its about 20Kg heavier, but a bit more towards the middle ...unnoticeable by us mere mortals wink

What bogie said... and if you consider that once you've spent all that dosh on all those shiny and oily quick bits, £200 for a good set-up at Plans, Guglielmi etc. is a no-brainer. Trust me, you don't notice the extra few kg - the NA cars are so bloody quick you're more interested in what's going on ahead of you. The SC cars are another level - road missiles.
