Vandals torch speed camera

The camera was destroyed by fire
A speed camera on the Cambridgeshire and Suffolk border is the latest to be destroyed in an arson attack.
Police said vandals targeted a camera on the A1101 between Littleport and Mildenhall near the tiny village of Prickwillow.

A tyre filled with petrol was set on fire around the device, which caused damage estimated at £25,000.

Several cameras in the east of England have been hit by arsonists and airgun pellets over the last few months.

A fixed speed camera site costs about £40,000 to install.

driving through the avon/somerset area last week, I noticed loads of camera warning signs had been vandalised/editted. There are loads of signs there, but very few cameras, so some bright spark had written "bollocks", "relax" or "where?" across the signs that were miles from the camera.

Bit of a shame really!

seriously though - if people keep torching cameras then we will get more talivans. Cameras are fixed and a road angel will sort you in places you haven't been before. Talivans are just nasty unforseeable buggars though.

So lets see if I have got this right. It costs £40,000 to install one camera and there are over 6000 of them. Is someone telling me that the Labour government have spent (or should I say we have) £240,000,000 on these fg cameras?
Next time they say there is no money for hospitals I must try and remember that.

So let me Guess - if they have talivans in accident blackspots- surely an accident with a 40 tonne truck might occur!!!!!

Seriously has anyone ever heard of a Gatso/Talivan being involved in a accident with a vehicle? does this go some way to proving that camera's and talivans are not located in accident blackspots or are they there and there have been no accidents since there arrival?

I would rather that happened personally, they do not work 24/7 and there will obviously be less of them. I am sure they would not sit there at 3.00am on the off chance that someone may be driving too fast, sorry, I mean at a revenue producing speed.
Now where is that box of matches, I am sure it was here somewhere..............
