Headlamp Missing?
Discussion
Just pulled up at work and been told i've got a light out. Thought he meant a bulb out but no i'm actually the headlamp missing. Its the facelift front end and the dipped lamp unit is not there at all. Not sure if its dropped inside but i cant feel it there. Surely they are fitted so they cant just drop out forward? Has anyone else had this happen to them? How much will a new lamp cost and where the hell do i get one from?? Any experiences greatly appreciated as i'm a little worried.
Thanks for that. It may have fallen inside and might go back on? Always think positive. Lol! I'll not know till later when i can get to have a look. I'm sure once its sorted i'll be able to laugh about it but its the second time i've brought it to work and i've only had the car a few weeks so i'm not a happy bunny. We all know they are not the most reliable cars, i bought it well aware of that. But headlamps falling out.......

Surely your car has an aftermarket front end set of lights? Often these are very badly fitted and finished when after market.
Yes i think they are. They looked to be fitted ok but they were obviously not. Dose that mean my lamp will be different? They are made by Hella. I'll be re fitting all of them to make sure they are secure!Presumably if it's fallen down inside it might still work - switch them on and peer in..?
Certainly gives a new meaning to "hey mate, one of your lights has gone".
GrahamN: good point. Aren't the seats attached to the tub? I'd like to think the driver would somehow keep going, at the same speed as before the brake was applied, but holding an imaginary steering wheel. Maybe I've been watching too much Tom and Jerry

I thought about switching them on and having a look, but only after grappling around inside and ending up with the wires in my hand. Saying that if it had fallen outwards shouldn't the wires have held it from falling completely or at least have been pulled through the hole and stayed there? I'm more optimistic about it being inside now. Dose anyone know how they are held in place so i can think about how i'm going to secure them better?
Mine are riveted to the pods. But mine aren't blended in (oem 2000lw), so I assume the lights were attached to the pods before the pods were attached to the car, because it would be impossible to attach them this way in situ. It also might explain why they were out of alignment rotationally.
I'm pretty sure it will have fallen down inside thinking about it, I believe it is too big to get through the hole. It was probably held on with clips of some kind, and your acceleration was too fierce for it

Im new on here and to TVR's but have read all the horror stories but this made my day. as you said a little bit like Tom and Jerry. "Well officer it was there when I left home I promise" "Yes sir but there is nothing there now is there sir!" "Dont worry officer its still there I can see it shinning on the engine just hold on a mo"
Still in fits love it cant wait to get home and drive mine again its like opening a lucky dip bag!!!

Well what an evening! I've only just dried out! Lucky for me the headlamp HAD fallen inside and for future refrance it IS impossible for the unit to fall out forwards (thank god). However it had been bouncing about in the bottom all the way home and was soaked in dirty water and the rattling about had broken the bulb. Once stripped down and cleaned and polished up i came to re fit the unit only to find that the units are supposed to be secured by two small threaded studs either side of the lamp hole. The studs are there but there are NO nuts fastening them on. Instead they have been glued/stickerflex'd on! WHY? If the fixings are there why the hell haven't they used them? The incompetance of some people astounds me! No wonder it fell out! (Although acceleration may have been a factor as i was running late for work this morning ;-)) Makes me wonder what else i'm going to find on it? Anyway i've secured them properly for now but i'm going to somehow drill and bolt them in better hopefully tomorrow pending weather. I also fitted both my HID kits while i was working on them so not a totally bad day because WOW are they bright now! I also think cleaning the projector lenses made a difference too!
