Zymol technique and products advice
Discussion
Been using Zymol carbon wax etc for a few years and running low on it and just wanted to clarify a few points before re-ordering:
1. What is the difference in use between the Zymol Autowash and Clear car washes apart from the price (£8 vs £40)?
2. What is the preferred method of application of HC cleanse (ie applicator and buffer type and should it dry etc)?
3. Is the concours wax better in terms of longevity of protection and lustre for daily use cars than the Titanium or Carbon?
4. Are applicators a no-no with the titanium and concours waxes and what is the prefered method of application/hazing and buffing
Thanks

1. Not enough to be concerned about. If you're looking for something better, go for Bilt Hamber Autowash or Dodo Juice Born To Be Mild1. What is the difference in use between the Zymol Autowash and Clear car washes apart from the price (£8 vs £40)?

2. HD Cleanse is perfectly fine for hand application, with no real benefit attained from by using a machine polisher. I wouldn't let it dry, but others may - there's no real exact use, it's all personal preference. You shouldn't need to be using HD Cleanse though, unless you strip the wax every month or two, since it's designed to make sure the paintwork is fully clean prior to laying the wax down. If you're looking for something that adds to the look of the car when waxed, you would be better served with a proper glaze - Dodo Juice Lime Prime LIte, Clearkote Vanilla Moose Hand Glaze, Victoria Lite Cleanse , or Meguiar's #7
3. If you're looking for a better wax than Carbon on a daily driver, for the same outlay, you'd do well to consider Dodo's Supernatural, which a lot of users have said performs and looks just as well, if not better than Swissvax's Best Of Show, at twice the price, and some of the more expensive Zymöl's too.
4. Again, personal preference - there's no science to suggest hand application is better than a foam applicator pad.

I put my Zymol Concours on by hand, but have always thought that using a foam applicator pad would be more uniform when it came to spreading it out evenly over the panel.Balmoral Green said:

Another vote for the Dodo Juice Supernatural, just about finished my first tub ( the hardwood one ) and ready to send away for filling.
Results? Superb.
Dodo juice to deal with? first class.
There is a charity day organised by the Scottish elises forum for marie curie, I sent Dom @ dodo Juice a mail asking if he would be as kind as to donate a prize, next day a courier arrived with a parcel with 2 bottles of lime prime, a bottle of born to be mild shampoo and a tub of supernatural - Thats customer service and how to build relationships with customers, unlike a certain company who threaten to take people to court if they dare to use their company name on websites etc...unless you pay a fee every year.......

Thanks for the replies
I have been advised that Zymol and Smartwax Concours and Dodo Supernatural are too soft and short lived for my 3 daily use (ungaraged) cars by Monza who supply all 3
They recommend Zymol titanium for daily use and Smartwax for the 2 garaged fun cars
Would you agree?

Probably a bigger profit margin in Titanium for them to be honest!
Maybe they're referring to Supernatural the original version - it's been tweaked to v2 recently.
Bottom line is ALL waxes will degrade from UV and airborne contaminants within a few months - if you're looking to be lazy at this time of year, then you'll be wanting to go with Autobalm.
Otherwise, layer on the wax once a month-6 weeks, and strip off every 3-4 months for continued protection.
Should also add, they're trying to get you to buy 2 separate waxes - why?
If Titanium is good enough for a daily driver, it's damn well good enough for the garage queens.
Seriously, get the Supernatural in the wooden jar, it'll cost a bit more initially, but will only cost you £50-60 delivered for a refill.

If your considering the Supernatural, why not order a tester tub? they are £15 each and see what you think.
Al
Got a tester (panel) pot of Dodo Supernatural and some Dodo Lime prime lite. Did the 355 (flat Rosso red) 2 weeks ago and got stunning results. Had a problem to start with the Lime Prime leaving a streaky/hazy finish until I tried wiping it straight off = stunning wet look base to wax over. Got many comments about how good it lookds
Got round to doing the 911 today (mid blue 2 coat). Had been disappointed eith the finish in it last time I Zymol'd it as for the first time ever it left holograms. So out with the Lime prime (smooth finish so didnt clay) and no matter what I did, the Lime prime left a hazy finish. Tried doing it twice, leaving a bit, a lot, wiping it straight off to no avail. It also left loads of holograms
Ended up having to get the Zymol cleanse out and got rid of the holograms and haze leaving a really good finish. Any suggestions why I got this probem today with Lime prime but not last time?

Porsches are renowned for "sticky paint" syndrome - whether this is a factor or not, I'm not 100% sure.
LPL does seem to have incidences where it will act up, a bit like Menzerna polishing compounds will, depending on the temperature and humidity. Perhaps a similar issue befalls LPL.
Mind you, a product like LPL or wax won't generate holograms, sounds more like secondary hazing, unless your applicator was causing it - which is hard to believe, but not totally impossible.

I suspect it is the previous product left on the paint - 'it felt smooth so didn't clay it' potentially means it still has old, bonded product on. Lime Prime Lite is more of a glaze than a polish so won't shift previous wax etc as well as normal Lime Prime. This smearing is likely to be the LPL reacting and 'wetting' the previously applied wax. You can also get this kind of streaking and hologramming from overapplying a product, not letting it dry tfor long enough (humid conditions usually) or not buffing it enough - although it can be the paint type. Some paints are more prone to these side effects than others. My money is on previous product though...

Had the same such company ring me to ask to remove there logo from my website or pay loads of money
Got over 35 waxes in use at the moment and found that paying anymore than you would for supernatural to be waisting your money!!!
find it hard to tell the difference between supernatural and swisswax and zym..!!!
I have lost a customer who booked in, and then just before delivery of the car to my unit he rang and said you do us zym.. so i advised him that i have better products throught years of testing and would layer multiple coats of zanio then finsh with best of show or supernatural !!
He then cancelled as he wanted zym.. wax designed for porsche paint!!!
I should of told him its zym.. on his car as i do keep it and just show him the half full tub!!!
Not used the surface prep products from dodo yet , must get some to try out!!

I know, this kind of stuff is hilarious (and quite sad really). We once made a pure 70% carnauba wax by weight to show carnauba percentage calculation was all smoke and mirrors and a customer of a rival refused to believe the evidence... his reason? That our concentrated wax didn't smell of almonds (the super-premium 'high carnauba' wax he was used to had almond fragrance in it).AndyMI16 said:

And boy oh boy was it a b1tch to use mate!!!!I found it a breeze to use..........as a paperweight - kept the loose pages from moving!
You mustn't have been using it right, Andy.
If you need any advice on how to use it properly, just give me a holler.
