A friend of mine is planning to pop the question to his girlfriend and has asked for some advice on the best way to do it. He wants the 'grand gesture' and, as fortune would have it, is a very wealthy individual so can probably pull it off.

So, assuming money was no object (within reason - no buying spaceships and proposing on the Moon!) how would you pop the question in a truly memorable way?

Give her a strawberry shortcake and then ask her to marry you.

If money is no object, I was planning on doing it with a champaign balloon ride across the desert in Dubai either at sunset or sunrise. Unfortunately at about £1000, I'd blown most of my budget on the ring.... hehe

I went out for beer and curry with some old friends, came back home, fell onto both knees (that'll be the beer), and slurred something about getting married.

Seemed to do the trick. We've been married for 7 years.

Drunk in a taxi cab seems to be a favourite option amongst my mates. I'm not really sure drunken proposals should count....but then again it also seems to be the favoured route of conception too.

Alcohol has alot to answer for.

Get a sheet, cut a hole in it, then we she comes in she sees a cock sticking out with a ring on it and a post it note asking her to marry you.

I would suggest that the "best way to propose" is an oxymoron - there is no good way to propose under any circumstances as it will only lead to marriage

Just look in these Hello or O.K. magazines they're full of these classy 'grand gestures' for engagement ideas. They even have wedding photos too.

Is he actually asking you for ideas or are you helping him off your own back? I expect she wants some romance element to the proposal and getting the idea from 20,000 hairy bored car enthusiasts doesn't seem a good start.

Try the way I proposed to the now ex - Running round trying to get my stolen car recovered, whilst the missus to be was throwing up following a dodgy curry the night before.

Just tell him to find someone who hates him with a passion and give them everything he owns.

It's quicker.

Offer an incentive, like a pearl necklace. Either way, they'll both know what kind of marriage lies ahead.

Probably not the way I was proposed to...

on the dance floor (well stood on the speakers) at the Sequins in Blackpool during a rave night, I couldn't actually hear what the boyfriend was saying so I just nodded and smiled.

When I proposed she (my now wife) thought I was dumping her, and burst into tears.
I'd best keep out of this convo then smile

Sorry, you'll have to explain that one again? How did she mistake a proposal for a dumping?

And weren't you even a bit tempted to take the opportunity to get rid of and run with it?
