Does anyone own one of these? I'm after a new bike, to replace my aged, and fairly crap Muddy Fox Rock n Roll, but i'm on a fairly tight budget.

I bought a 2008 version of that bike a couple of months ago, I really like it. It's the first bike I've ridden with disk brakes and they're very impressive. It's also pretty light (well compared to my old bike which was made out of lead). It feels a pretty good bike to me anyway.

It's a good bike, but this is the perfect time to get a great deal on 2008 model bikes, which are probably better specced for the money to start with, before sale reductions.

You could get last year's model for £70 less on evans, or even better, go for the non-disc version (£249 on evans) and spend the extra on hydraulic discs, which would be better than the cable discs it comes with.

ETA: My mistake, you can't easily upgrade the non-disc version to discs,I don't think the hubs aredisc compatible.

I was thinking that but run out models seem to disappear very quickly!

Just got a 17" 2007 for my son. He loves it, and is about your height, so that might be a good place to start.

Just realised. DON'T BUY the non-disc version and upgrade as I suggested earlier - the wheels don't have disc compatible hubs. Sorry!

I have one and its great.

Spend many an hour plugging around the fields and seawall here on it.

Only problem I had was the indicator cover on the front shifter fell off but i replace the
shifter with a slightly better one anyway.

I did that with a 2007 HR sport, worked out good but the conversion cost about as much again as I paid for the bike......

I got myself a Specialized Hard Rock Sport (non disc) 6 or 7 years ago as a means of getting back in to Mountain Biking, and it turned out to be a great purchase. Although i have other bikes now, this one is still going strong with all original componentry.

OK, so it weighs a bit, and the forks are not great, but it is an excellent and value for money way to get into mouuntain biking

Still deciding what to do, I saw one of these in Bridgetown Cycles, so it may be a toss up between the two:

Any thoughts?

Hmmm. Funnily enough I also have a Scott - a Scale 40 i built up myself, and i must say it is a great bike. Very suitable to long rides over off road terrain.

The spec on this bike looks similiar quality wise to the Hardrock, but the biggest difference is the brakes - this has hydraulic discs. but i suspect the bike will feel different to the Specialized. If poss try to give each one a little test ride.
