Is it just me or do these really depress other people?

I know I don't have to listen to it, but its what we have on at work..

I have just listened to it and its so depressing..

Guy who lost his daughter hits bottle hard, then gets clean, then dad dies, hits bottle now has months to live from it..

Track - Behind Blue eyes..

Any views on this segment of the show?

yes it's about the only segment that people don't come on here and complain about how un-funny [insert todays target R1 dj name here] is, or how up their own arse [insert todays target R1 dj name here]is or how crap at DJing [insert todays target R1 djs name here] is or that all listeners to [insert todays target R1 djs name here] are idiots, or thick, or without taste etc etc etc.

I like it. It's a "stop and think and be thankful" moment for me. I seldom hear it though.

I like it, though the quality of the songs has gone down in recent months. Im sure someone picked something like Basshunter or some other cr4p recently....

I don't mind it, but we have R1 at work as its lively and plays modern music that is not all black based, and it suits our image. But this just puts a damper on it all..

I agree it makes you think about how lucky you are not to have all those problems..

Yes it is, but he selected the Limp Bizkit version, which to be fair is not a bad cover at all.

I think it's interesting when there's a sad old story than the changing track is something like goldigger

What's with this alcohol thing on R1 anyway, it's getting very preachy and bloody annoying, Aled getting pissed for 3 weeks and being told he's become in 'dramatically' bad shape, and now this track from a dying alchy. irked

It all depends...

sometimes its completley pathetic, like some teenager wanting a track to remind them of a 'ibiza holiday' with their mates..

Other times, it can really make you stop and think - its more about the story than the song, but it can help put things in perspective.

That pisses me off you know..

"Aled is consuming a huge amount of alcohol each day to prove the effects" one of them said the other day; the little queer is drinking the equivalent of three pints or a couple of glasses of wine, hardly the be all and end all, I would say that over the week I will probably do similar.

If they want to really see what a proper drinker does they should get him on 5/6 pints over 10 units a day.

What every single day. No. If you need stories like this to remind you that life can be st sometimes then you are lucky too have never experienced bad luck in life , or you have lived in a box all you life. Funny how we do not here any stories about the WAR what has been going on for five bloody years.

As i said it depends on the story - sometimes i couldnt care less, other times it makes me think.

As does hearing from friends who have been through a tough time.

As for the war - im terribly sorry the fact its plastered all over the news all the time isnt enough exposure for you - your right i should head to the nearest army town and buy all the squaddies a drink for doing their job and ask them to tell me all about their terrible experiences because, you know, right now I think wars just a big laugh rolleyes

Jo Whiley is obviously trying to recreate Simon Bates' 'Our Tune' - only problem is, that whilst her voice is soft, it isn't warm, so the tales she tells come across like someone reading out a shopping list

Some of those Our Tunes used to crack me up. How unlucky could one person get?

Radio 1 playing songs written by that known paedo Pete Townshend. Where's the lynch mob?
