It’s been a while since I posted on this forum in which time my Griff 500 as sat under a cover unloved in the garage while I’ve messed about with various turbo Jap rockets well this is about to change and the Griff is making a come back.
My Griff was quite heavily modified in the engine / brake / suspension departments but I’ve decided to return the Grif to std spec, so the Nitrons, Willwood brakes, Act inlet gear, de-cat , chip etc have all been removed and sold, and std parts have been re-fitted with the exception of the catalytic converter.
Soon after I bought the car I discovered the cat was blocked (caused by a broken lambda sensor ?) restricting both power and the lovely V8 roar hence the change to de cat and supporting mods and the start on the slippery slope of mods that followed.
Obviously I don’t want to re fit a blocked cat so my question is what are my options? can a cat be cleaned /serviced ? what will the effects be of cutting the cat out and running with std inlet/fuelling? is there any one offering replacement / exchange units at reasonable cost? or is the only option a new unit?

You won't get a new one, they come up on Ebay regularly though, about £50-£100.

I've seen these and while not cheap may be the best option overall, I've just posted a wanted ad so I'll give that a bit of time and keep an eye on Ebay, at least I know I can get one despite the costeek

It would seem a relatively simple job with an angle grinder and welder to replace the core in the existing Y piece, if you can find one the right size. Given that it's a simple cylindrical shape I imagine there's a good chance of finding a matching replacement - after all, the people who made the original exhausts would have been using standard cats at the time.

Apparently its a not-very-stainless stainless. So better than mild, but it will still rust.

I was thinking of whether I could weld it myself, I have an half decent Mig but I don't have it set up for S/S.
