What's the skinny on availability at the mo, anyone had to do one recently. Annoyingly had a lorry flick up a stone at me last night and now have a nice circular chip in the middle of the screen, it's sort of spread out in a circle to about a 2cm diameter but all kinda internally, you can only feel small hole on the outside of the screen and nothing from the inside - certainly not something I want to live with and pretty sure something that will fail the mot come time for that.

Am going to go through the insurance company and no doubt they will want to use a large national fitting company of some sort (which fills me with dread), but I am guessing that who ever that is won't hold stock of TVR stuff normally. Not called em yet so this is a pre-emptive post as expecting to have to do a bit of legwork myself on this one.

Yes, you can get them. AFAIK they are still being made, so no foreseeable problems with availability. Can't remember the contact for them (someone will be along in a minute) but there are two types. Measure the thickness of the black surround at the top before calling them. You might have to wait a few weeks for the next batch to come in.

Mine was fitted about 8 months ago and has a top tint, which I quite like.

i had the same thing happen to me but i dont htink my insurance has screen cover.

my only problem with having it replced is that the current screen is stamped or brandishes the tvr logo. and what i dont want is one that doesnt have the tvr logo or even worse a tacky autowindscreens logo or something.

is there only one supplier of the screens? would they come with the tvr logo or not?

I got one of them windscreen repair crowds to fix a similar hole in mine (which happened the day before the MOT!).

Lovely job - almost invisible, done in 15 mins and cost nothing. As in the insurance company paid, and the repair company dealt with the admin instantly.

I can't remember who they are - could have been Autoglass, they have stands in car parks of large shopping centres.

Try dropping 530dTPhil an email. He's connected to mobilewindscreens.co.uk and one of their guys used to be the windscreen fitter for TVR. They did my car back in dec 2006 and did a great job.

Well on the back of this I am going to let them have a crack (scuse the pun) at fixing it first, spoken to them on the phone and they said anything upto about £1 coin in size is doable, mine is probably on the cusp of that but would rather they try than have to disturb the windscreen if possible - also remembered mine is heated which probable adds to the problems of replacing. Going in on Monday and will keep you all updated (cos I'm sure you are all on tenter hooks hehe)

Thanks all thumbup

Well I promised an update biggrin

They were unable to repair it when I visited them so ordered me up a new screen, David Gerald supplied I believe and was with them within a week so no grumbles re supply at the moment which is good - going to lose my heated screen as the new one is just a standard screen, bit of a shame but hey ho. In for fitting today, just hoping they don't feck it up.

Only dodgy bit with fitting is the wind deflectors I was told. Make sure they've got them back OK.

No it does not. If you have a screen you must also have wipers, squirters and a de-mister. Every year we take the windscreen off the Sprite for its MOT because it has none of the above.

touching cloth: does your new windscreen come with tvr stamped on it?

the chip on my screen is unrepariable, its like a marble circular crack with no actual chip.

Just got it back this afternoon, yes it is stamped as TVR so no worries there - apparently mine was a bit of a bh to fit as they had to shave the screen to get it to fit the aperture, drivers side top and bottom edges both needed this to avoid fowling the body. All in all looks like a good job so can't complain.

Hi TC,
Which firm fitted it?
My broker is saying RAC Screens or National something-or-other - neither fill me with confidence.
Cheers,
D.

The RAC centre in Surrey has done quite a few Cerbera screens. I had the same paranoia as you when my insurance company told me who they would authorise to replace it.

That said, they couldn't get hold of a screen, so I got special permission for Fernhurst to do it for me!

Yeah RAC for mine, bit anxious but seems to be an ok job. Am guessing they will vary depot to depot though so bit of an unknown (unless you want to bring yours to Slough which is where mine went lol).

RAC took a whole evening and a day when I had it done and wanted to keep the car over night! I told them I would park it in the workshop and won't be leaving the fob with them. They told me they needed to test drive it after it was done to make sure the job was A ok!!!!! I replied to the manager asking how he would feel leaving his Mrs with me for the night so I could test drive her when I'm done!! Think he got the message, so take your keys.
