Wedge Inspections
Discussion
Hi Everyone,
I'm new here but have been reading this forum for a while now and know you guys will be a real help.
I may be going to look at a car over the weekend that is based in north London that invites 'professional Inspections'. In the past with cars I may have simply had the AA do an inspection but I suspect that I'd be better off with someone that knows the TVR Wedges. Can anyone recommend someone that would be close enough to North London that I may be able to use?
Thanks for your help with this and apologise for the very short notice!
Regards
Emmdat

No problem at all. I in fact went and viewed but decided it was not for me as too much work needed so inspection proved unnecessary.
The car is currently advertised on this site as a 'Rare Gloss Black 400 SE' for £4,990. I knew it was a little under priced so was expecting some issues and whilst mechanically and chassis wise it looked okay other than a charging issue (flat battery after running for a while upon re-start) cosmetically it needed a fair bit doing and would have been beyond my abilities. The cost of paying to have all the work done I think would have brought the cost up to way above my budget so simply looking for a better car and will have to pay more.
The hunt continues!

As the saying goes 'you get what you pay for'
Whilst there are bargains to be had, you have to be aware that they will need a certain amount of work. Sometimes this can cost more than what it would have cost had you spent more in the 1st place...
Of course if your intention is restoration, and you have the skills then this can be a cheaper way into ownership.
More expensive cars are usually higher price for a reason, ie they have had the expenditure put into them.
Chassis
interior (carpet/wood)
Main dealer s/h
re-sprays
Hood replacement
etc....
I think this goes for most older classics.
Good luck with your purchase. Plenty people here only to happy to offer advice, and may even know the car for sale.

Thanks guys for all your replies and your points are well made and understood. To be honest my reply back to Simon was really not intended to be taken as a negative against the car in any way. Rather it was a reflection of just how meagre my own maintenance and restoration abilities really are. The exercise was useful for me in that at last it's beginning to sink into my thick head that messing about with MGB's 20years ago was one thing but a glass fibre, V8 powered, complex, thoroughbred, classic sports car like a TVR is a very different animal indeed! Apart from anything else it also highlighted that I really wouldn't have the time either!
So Wayne, your advice has been taken on board and I intend to take more time over the search and find the right car for me given my limited abilities. One thing is for sure it has to be a wedge as I love the shape and for me a 400 SE!!
Simon - Many thanks for the offer and I'll be in touch because chatting to someone that has already been through this process with the current available crop of cars will really help focus my attentions where it should be and avoid chasing down unsuitable (for me in any case)cars and save a huge amount of time!
Rest assured all that when I have the next car in the cross hairs so to speak I'll reach out and tap into the knowledge base out there!
Thanks.

Waynester appears to have a very nice 400se for sale at a reasonable price!
I understand that it is already sold!I didn't want to change/delete any advert until the deal is finalised.
Edit:Apologies to those who called over the weekend & yesterday. Tis difficult explaining that it has sold when it hasn't...quite..yet
