Warming up a Cerby

Have recently got a Cerby and still in that 'cautious ' phase of ownership. Have a question about warming up procedure.

Using common sense and experiences of previous cars, I do the following when starting the car:
1) Start without throttle pressure
2) Wait for oil pressure to get to normal level before moving off
3) When driving keep revs below about 3000 until all the under bonnet rattling has gone and the engine temperature is normal.

Does anyone have any further guidance specifically for the Cerby? Is there anything else I should be paying attention to?

Check the oil more regularly than your last TVR - if you did not have a TVR then check it at least once a week. The book says daily but I use mine everyday and check it each weekend when it gets cleaned.

Check out the Cerbera FAQ on this esteemed website. Since that should give you the information you need.
Although on there it recommends starting your car with some throttle pressure but none at all if the engine is already warmed up.

got a 4.2- i agree i read that when cold start her up with a slight depression of the accelerator to help turn the engine and then keep at a steady 1000-1200 (or was that 2000!)rpm for a few minutes.

i use Mobil 1 and castrol ful synth.. due to mobil 1 pi$$ing through seals.. depends on your car do you find it's loosing oil a lot each week?

I don't pick up my car until friday (Cerbera 4.2) so have no experience in the leaks dept.

I was just doing some homework.

Mobil 1 for my Cerbera 4.5 as recommended in the manual. Have had no problems with it at all.

We use Mobile1 all the time..... General rule is they uses about litre per thousand miles. (some use slightly more, some less)

Ok cheers for that - do they make different grades of Mobile 1 or is it just standard?

I suppose I should check the oil every 3-4 days?

Personal experience is that running below 2500rpm for the first few miles helps all the Ts & Ps to stabilise - don't forget that the oil doesn't just need to be at the correct pressure, but the correct temp. too.

I use the motorsport version of mobil 1 -- it's a bit thicker and tends not to disappear as quickly as the regular mobil 1.

As for warming up, remember that the oil temp lags the coolant temp by a good few minutes. I use the slight oil pressure drop as it warms and thins as a good measure of when to open it up over about 3k rpm.

Bear in mind that if you rely on idling it to warm it up then this does nothing for the diff oil and gearbox oil. This is particularly applicable to hydratrak diffs.

Think of the tyres, too. In my experience, they grip much better when warm!

If you check my car profile you'll find my (probably overly conservative) warming up process, including typical distances. Tis for a Speed6 so oil pressure might be different.

Use the standard Mobil 1 10W40 as per the manual - 2 litres in 4,000 miles and some of that was lost due to a leak in a pressure sensor.
